The food was tasty but I had an awful customer service experience. We went for the first time last friday and loved the OG chicken sandwich. So much so that two days later, we decided to pick up 7 or 8 chicken sandwiches for Sunday dinner. From Louisiana and picky about food so once we find something we like, we eat there often. (Torchy's has made thousands from us over the last decade). We tried to order online Sunday night and apparently the Saturday night staff hadn't reset the online menu so most things showed up as sold out (including the OG). So we ordered the 3 of the remaining type of chicken sandwiches (which isn't as good) even though we wanted to take advantage of their order 5 and get the 6th sandwich free. I ordered online and drove to the Elmo Food truck. Once I arrived, I learned of the staffing mistake which is why we could only order 3 sandwiches. Because we had already purchased 3 orders of boneless chicken wings and 3 chicken sandwiches, I wanted to order some of the OG sandwiches but the guy at the food truck wouldn't give us the 5 for 6 deal. He explained the 5 for 6 deal is only in person. I explained to him that I was there in person, he had just handed me 3 sandwiches and I was ordering 4 more? He said the system wouldn't allow it. I asked if he could just ring up 3 more sandwiches and put the fourth sandwich, a tempeh (our 10 order item) on the house? He said he wasn't allowed. As a fellow business owner, it always annoys me when people aren't given the autonomy to build brand loyalty and act like an owner. Because of the principle, I ended up ordering just the tempeh sandwich for our buddy and didn't order anything more. And you guys lost my business going forward. I'm not writing this because I want a free sandwich, it's not the $10 that matters, it's how you do business. I don't believe the customer is always right and maybe I'm being a douche about it but it doesn't seem like the owners have empowered the employees to actually build a brand that people will keep coming back for. Also, the original reason we didn't order 8 OG chicken sandwiches online was because the staff incorrectly updated the online ordering the night before. All around disappointing...

Food: When you make quality food, you're allowed to have a smaller menu. Spicy Boys has three fried chicken sandwiches, nuggets, bone-in fried chicken, sides and vegetarian options (nuggets made from cauliflower and a fried tempeh sandwich). I ordered the "Hot Gai" fried chicken sandwich chili oil, swiss cheese, pickles and massaman mayo and a side of spicy cukes. Both were perfectly flavored and spicy without being overpowering. The combination of flavors on my sandwich was refreshing and sooooo good.
Price: For a sandwich and a side, my bill was $16.16. That's not horrible in an expensive city like Austin, Texas.
Service: The man who took my order was chill and friendly. I gave him my number and he texted me when my order was up in 15 minutes.
Space: There are plenty of outdoor picnic tables on the patio and in a large grassy area behind the food truck.
Note that they don't sell drinks. They ask that you get drinks from Zilker Brewing....
Read moreDecided to come here because the high reviews. I placed an order for a tingly gai chicken sandwich. He quoted me 10 mins. Cool thatâs standard time 6-8 mins to cook the chicken then make the order. No big deal.
After 10 mins I get the food and the chicken is slightly above warm. After 2 bites I go back up and ask for a hot sandwich made fresh. I explained the one I had wasnât even above warm and had the sandwich open for him to feel. He didnât seem to understand. He said âmore spicyâ I explained âno cooked hot. The temperature. 159 degree plus chicken temp cookedâ. He still seemed confused after a few minutes he somewhat figured it out.
Then after 2 minutes the food was âreadyâ. Itâs clear they precook the chicken and just make the sandwiches to order. So he simply dropped mine back in the grease and you could tell because it was overly greasy in the bread. If Iâm making a comment about it I donât mind waiting did fresh food. Not a great experience at all. But the neighbors...
