Hungry Howie's Pizza — Restaurant in Avondale

this review is straight up painful to write. grew up in the area and just moved back. was really excited to be so close to a Hungry Howies, even if it was one i’d had iffy experiences with living here previously. we ordered twice, and the second time while waiting, i witnessed the guy prepping everything using his phone (an object people often use in the bathroom) between literally every pizza he made, then touching pepperoni, then veggies, then his phone again. i could feel his phone getting grimy myself let alone the health concerns. he also really needed a hairnet, like guaranteed someone got hair in their food tonight. i tried to rationalize the oven would kill any bacteria because i 100% did not want to awkwardly cancel the order, but in the end i couldn’t ignore it and i cancelled it. to their credit, they were courteous and dealt with it appropriately immediately, so 2 stars instead of 1 - but seriously don’t eat here until the health department pays them a visit and they retrain their staff...

Came here on 7/8/2025 at about 9:05 p.m… the guy was working by himself, which I can understand how that can be frustrating but he snatched the money out of my hand & also threw my change in my hand to the point that it went flying everywhere… I just went ahead & dropped the rest of the change RUDLY on the counter for his tip!! He was very unprofessional & it’s VERY unprofessional for Hungry Howies to put sooo much pressure on one person which definitely can cause extra frustration or even an altercation! If you have one worker, just close for the evening because that’s truly unfair to him & it’s also unfair to us as the customer. I’ve been a customer at Hungry Howies since a child & this was my first bad experience, I’m 30 now. Let’s get this together before I have to switch...

This place was okay…. I do want to say it’s not fair only 1 guy working at dinner time.. Smh when I went he was the one to ring us up and make our food. Not sure what was the case but it’s not fair . He needs help. He was very sweet and committed to completing the $90.00 order however right after he received 2 more , I’m not sure the price or amount of items . But he did it. Good for him. Can’t remember his name but he knows he worked on 02/12/24 dinner time .! He did offer to make stuffed crust with regular mozzarella cheese cause there was no more string cheese. However unfortunately it was enough cheese inside which cause the pizza to kinda get too toasted. I understand thou. Just get him some help for next time...
