I'm all for supporting small businesses in Azusa, so it pains me so much for writing this review for Chelsy's.
I decided to drop by today since I've seen them open for a while and wanted to help support, but my gosh the food here is really awful. I ordered a caldo de res soup and a wet burrito. Both items were so incredibly bland and tasteless. The soup was completely disappointing, and it looks nothing like the photos they have on their website. I opened the container to discover only two large pieces of meat with no veggies and the soup tasted like beef oil with no salt or any seasoning. The wet burrito actually looked good and was smothered in sauce, but was equally bland. I don't know if they just don't use salt here but gosh everything tasted really awful with absolutely no flavor. The owners are really nice and friendly people, however I cannot recommend this kind of food to anyone. I feel like I wasted $28 and all I want to do is just throw everything I ordered away. Maybe they are more known for their donuts and baked goods, but their savory menu needs huge...
Read moreAuthentic Oaxacan food Autentica Comida Oaxaqueña Small shop with authentic ingredients. I walked in to a welcoming cook, kindly warning me that it would take about 20 mins, considering she was the only employee (slow shift) and she would make my dishes by herself. I knew what to expect, and I placed my order as I went for a quick walk to explore the neighborhood. I am from Oaxaca, so I ordered empanada de mole amarillo and a mixed tlayuda. I got exactly what I was looking for. Not to mention her kind words and attention while she was putting together my dishes once I came back: A traditional Oaxacan service with an unpretentious positive attitude and good vibes. I'll definitely order again before showing up since they close at 7. Support your small business. These guys definitely deserve it. But if you have no patience, just go somewhere else and let us enjoy traditional oaxacan cooking at its...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem! I was honestly surprised walking into Chelsea’s Donuts & Bakery and Restaurant to find not just fresh donuts, but authentic Mexican pastries and incredible Mexican food as well. The coffee alone has such a unique flavor — rich, bold, and unlike anything I’ve had at the bigger chains. Pair that with the fresh, warm donuts and you’re in heaven.
The prices are more than fair, and you can feel the passion in everything they serve. This is the kind of small restaurant I love to support — you can tell they care deeply about their food and about serving the community.
I’ve already decided this is going to be one of my regular spots. A true treasure in the...
