Bento Express — Restaurant in Bakersfield

Finding a restaurant without a long wait in Bakersfield is no easy task on a Friday evening. Being out of towners, we found ourselves driving aimlessly around the city looking for a sushi place that offered some decent food. We nearly missed this small, modest looking restaurant on the corner of Oak and Truxton but thanks to my daughter's sharp eyes, we decided to give it a try and are so grateful we did. Apparently, this is a small, family owned business that has been a fixture in Bakersfield for many years from what I gleaned from the newspaper reviews on the wall. I ordered the teriyaki salmon and wife and daughter both ordered a combination tempura meal. The portions were huge! First of all, the food came out piping hot and not more than 10 minutes after we placed our orders. I hadn't been to bento Express in a long time and I wanted something different so many places like love in their food nowadays. I went here the food was better than ever. It was fresh it was hot it was good perfect for the day. I got a teriyaki bento box it came with sushi a salad tempura vegetables and a shrimp tempura teriyaki chicken and I upgraded for fried rice. Can I tell you that their fried rice was amazing. The teriyaki chicken was cooked to perfection it was so juicy. The tempura vegetables were wonderful I think I had like two or three sweet potatoes in there they were so good. And I washed it all down with a Pepsi. The waiter and staff were so attentive to ensure that I had everything that I needed. Absolutely service with a smile. Their food made me smile. Also made my stomach happy. I had stopped at this place a few months ago to pick up miso soup while I had bronchitis and it was delicious. Almost like it healed me ;) lol. I've been wanting to come back and so today, a coworker and I came for lunch. OMG. FANTASTIC. I had the chicken teriyaki bento and with all the stuff you get, and it's now on a list of my favorite lunch spots. The salad was fresh, the tempura galore (shrimp, broccoli, sweet potato, mushroom, green bean ALL TEMPURA) was crisp, DELICIOUS fried rice, miso soup, tender chicken, and 4 rolls of sushi.
