Mom's House — Restaurant in Bakersfield

I will start off with " I ate everything they served me". In retrospect I shouldn't have. I guess I'm not the 'southern food' type. I asked for their most popular dish, which was Chicken and waffles, or in this case, waffle. The chicken breast was butterflied breaded and fried. It was properly prepared but was very, very bland. The waffle flavor was good, with a little touch of cinnamon in it. I had to ask for something sharper than the butter knife I'd been given to cut both the chicken AND the waffle. Both were very tough. I was given a steak knife, perfect. The syrup supplied was in the cleanest dispenser I've ever seen! Must be brand new or they're super good at keeping things clean. The biggest problem for me was the dessert. I asked what the single most representative Southern dessert was that they had, and she said the peach cobbler. So I ordered peach cobbler. Visually there were a few slices of peaches in it but I could taste nothing but the most overpowering, strongest nutmeg flavor I've ever had to try and enjoy. In fact it seemed as though I would have been better off just to chug a jar of ground nutmeg. While the staff was friendly and attentive, That's not enough to get me to return.I will not...

This was a really good choice that truly surpassed my expecting. Some really gorgeous employees who were great at what they do. The window sill @ our booth Had Not Recently Been Cleaned or dusted. I will be back to make sure that I can't find something they make that I might not like? It's going to be a welcome task to undertake! When the open sign lit up, my elderly slow paced mother and I almost went back to the car to wait because the door was not promptly opened after the open sign came on. But within a few minutes we opened the unlocked door to then enter and promptly were first to be seated. The place didn't immediately fill to it's capacity but was going to probably be a full house soon. My first visit tells me this place probably stays pretty steady thru normal business hours. Malik was fine at being a waiter & just as fine to engage in conversation. Clearly Malik will be very popular among the ladies and if I could have a body like that from eating there everyday then riding my bike from east b-field couldn't hurt anymore than it did today cuz that was how I got...

I was truly disappointed when I discovered J’s place shut its doors for good. I was going out for lunch and just happened to glance at the old J’s as I wizzed by! To my surprise I seen a new establishment. I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I figured it might be another local restaurant that decided to fill the void left by J’s. I couldn’t help but google and find out what was going on! Mom’s House pops up, OK OK Ok the name sounds promising. I decided to deepen my search and find the menu online! Whaaaaaaat it’s the same menu as J’s! I immediately changed my lunch plans and shot straight to Mom’s!

The name of this down home restaurant is apt for the quality and quantity of food they serve! The closet thing that I’ve found to out of my own kitchen! Not only in Bakersfield but in California! Needless to say my lunch was delicious and nutritious and hit the spot from a few different angles :)
