New Taj Palace Indian Restaurant Bakersfield — Restaurant in Bakersfield

Visit to this restaurant was not planned, but we are glad we did visit this gem of a place. One our way to Sequoia we stopped at Bakers field for lunch, 3 Indian families and 12 of us, choice was easier, Indian restaurant.

Since we are on our way to National Park, we chose against Buffet, price was very tempting for Buffet, $13.99. This place is family run restaurant, greeted well like family. The Restaurant building itself is not very exotic but this is well compensated by the nearly authentic Indian dishes. This place is heaven for vegetarian, so may choices for Indian vegetarian dishes you can choose. And most important prices are very reasonable. Ample of seating arrangements and neat itself. Coming to food, its all usual items on the menu but all was fresh and delicious with great fresh spices Wonderful naan bread and rotis. We started with Appetizers, VEGETABLE PAKORAS and TAJ ASSORTEDSEEKH KABAB which have mix of VEGETABLE SAMOSA, PAKORA, CHICKEN PAKORA, ONION BHAJI, everything was yumm and fresh. We got TAJ TANDOORI CHICKEN, It was perfectly cooked and juicy, very flavorful. We ordered lot of Garlic Nan and plenty of curries to try, Goat Curry, Vegetable Jafrezi, Aaloo methi, Khadi, Bhindi Masala and Chicken Tika. We did not have any complaints about any food here and also staff. Only feedback is to for waitress to get the order right and give it right. Normally love this place. Come maybe once a month or so (or just order take out) and normally enjoy it fine. This review is for the day I went only (3/15/24) but it was bad enough I wanted to say something. They made us wait almost thirty minutes for our food after bringing one piece of the entire meal. The food they brought is a normal favorite of mine but I like it on the more mild side. Aside from it being there way before my other parts of what I ordered and starting to cool…it was spicy! I mean way more than medium that I have had before.. was let down by this but I some how hoped maybe it was just the one piece of chicken I tried…my partner food comes and it’s ok but very spicy. This was ok because he didn’t specify but they also didn’t ask! At this point we have been at the restaurant 45 mins and barely had all the food at the table though they seemed to be not extremely busy..

After properly trying my dish it was found to be so spicy I couldn’t eat it.. I just wanted to leave at this point and asked for check. They acted surprised and questioned what was wrong. Said wayyy too spicy. Asked for mild. Got a confused look and an offer to remake it. I said ok and then waited another 20 mins… someone brings out the ‘new’ dish on a skillet that normally is sizzling and too hot to touch.. not this time… spicy level not really reduced and I truly believe they did not remake it at all.

We were a dine in group of 4 on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was not packed and we were seated quickly. It is at this point the efficiency and good customer service ends. After placing our orders we sat at our table, near the kitchen, for over an hour and a half waiting for our food. We watched the wait staff walk by our table numerous times bringing other tables of 3 or 4, who arrived after us, their food. We also watched those same customers complete their dining experience and leave the restaurant as we continued waiting for our food. We asked, several times, where our orders were only to be told it would be out in a few minutes. They did not even have the courtesy of refilling our water glasses. I suggested to our group that we leave and just get food at a drive thru. It was after they over heard this that we were told once again our food was on its way. However, we were also told one of our orders was incorrect and they made the wrong dish. We were so hungry we said we would just accept the dish made. When the bill arrived there was no compensation made for the wrong dish being served. And there was no apology or compensation given to make amends for the...
