Sorry to have to urinate on everyone's shrine, but the food at this place was one step above awful. Charred, tough, chewy kabobs; a salad slathered in dressing with nothing but lettuce; salty rice and a packaged-tasting pita. For a $20 meal, I could have gotten so much better. Disappointed in that because $20 is not cheap!
The interior looks like it should be a credit union or the health department, not a restaurant. It's very uncomfortable, tables oddly arranged in a cold and uninviting spot. Outside has so much road noise that I can't believe there's even a patio there. It's the wrong spot for a restaurant.
The only thing I liked about this place was the ice (slushee like) and the iced tea (good flavor). The grilled tomato was also good, and the folks working there were pleasant enough. When my food was taking forever, I was told that "the lamb takes longer to cook". No, it actually should have stopped cooking 3 minutes before it was served to me because it was burnt when I got it.
The food just sucked, and it would take so little to spruce the place up! Where's Gordon Ramsay when...
Read moreMy favorite restaurant in town, and after trying a few other Mediterranean places, still the best I've ever had. Lovely, cozy, and locally owned. Great for lunch or dinner. Lunch special pita sandwiches are great, and full dinners are also to die for. Lamb kebab is my go-to dinner, while I'm partial to the chicken shawarma sandwich for lunch. Even though I have my favorites, everything I've ever ordered was phenomenal, even their salad is stellar (yes, I just said that a salad was stellar). Just ate at another Mediterranean spot for lunch today, which made me feel I needed to update my review. I've also tried some Mediterranean restaurants while out of town, and nothing comes close to Pita House. So go give Lisa and Mac a visit, you will not be...
Read moreAt first, I was skeptical because when my husband and I entered into the restaurant there was literally only one other couple there at the peak of lunch hour! We decided to give it a chance anyways because it is Bakersfield. We started off with an appetizer, stuffed grape leaves (the reason why I'm giving this a 4 star). It felt as it was just microwaved and I'm usually a big fan of them, but these were awful. Yet, we persisted and ordered our main dishes. I had a lamb shawarma while my husband had chicken shawarma. Both of them was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The lamb especially was so tender. The hummus was perfect and it was the perfect portion size. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you guys want authentic Mediterranean/ middle...
