FoodMaxx — Local services in Bakersfield

So, I decided to make a nice meal and realized my fridge was a barren wasteland of greens. Off to FoodMax I went for the third time, thinking, “Third time’s the charm!” Spoiler alert: It wasn’t.

I walked in, ready to grab a cart, but nope, not a single one in sight. “No worries,” I thought, “I’m just here for salad.” Fast forward five minutes and my hands are full because I have the self-control of a kid in a candy store.

By now, my arms are auditioning for a bodybuilder competition, so I drop my stuff and go on a cart hunt. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one on this wild goose chase. Picture a bunch of us, juggling groceries like it’s some sort of twisted Olympic event. And it’s over 100 degrees outside—perfect weather for carrying a mini-mart in your hands.

I asked an employee where the carts were, and she said, “They’re hiding,” then shrugged like she was telling me the sky is blue. I stared at her, spaced out, thinking, “What the hell just happened?”

So, I embarked on an epic quest to the parking lot, dodging tumbleweeds and imaginary cart thieves. Still no carts. In a store the size of a small country, this is a problem. I finally found a cart, loaded up, and headed to checkout, dreaming of the air conditioning in my car.

As I paid and bagged my groceries, I loaded everything back into the cart and headed out. But as soon as I crossed the threshold, the wheels locked up like they had stage fright. Seriously?

So, here I am, wondering who’s running this circus. My advice to FoodMax: hire more staff, order more carts, or maybe both. This was hands down the worst (yet somehow funniest) shopping experience of my life.

Edit: Last straw. Went for ham. They have ONE that looks bad and expired yesterday which means it probably was found in the aisles and they tried to sell it anyway. There is never any spring mix. This is LOW QUALITY and just unacceptable laziness and gross. I used to love this location. However for like a year now I literally can't do all my shopping here. The quality is hit or miss, sometimes the produce or meat goes bad within a couple days long before the date. But the inventory is never consistent every single time I have gone to this store in an entire year there have been items that I should be able to get that they don't have. What produce section doesn't even have any spring mix in stock? No pork belly, normally no roast beef. When you ask employees to help they don't help unless it's something super simple. I literally asked the Butcher and he told me they don't even sell pork belly even though I've bought it here four different times . It's very frustrating not knowing if I'm going to actually be able to finish my shopping trip when I go to the store I end up having to go to another store additionally every single time because they don't have something that they normally have. Honestly it's just frustrating at this point. I'm going to have to start just going somewhere else from the get-go so I can get all of my stuff in one spot even if it's more expensive. If you're there to buy bulk unhealthy carbohydrate food or pre-made unhealthy food you're probably good. But if you like cooking and making your own food you might as well just go somewhere else so you don't have to make two...

100% disgusting experience I had in the bathroom just now. I took photos and left. This is a major health violation and poorly maintained. There is no toilet paper and no seat covers installed at all, like seriously! No toilet paper, and it shows proof they know because they cleaned it earlier using they rags and threw it away in the trash that has human poop in the trash can also. This store needs to be exposed major for sure! I'm looking out for other people and they kids and elders. And the water sinks outside the bathroom is all built up yuk color all over the drinking area. They need new everything installed and new staff employee that know what they are doing to take care of the whole area and even the battery back is all exposed and wires showing from the backside of the door also. Major fire hazard also. The stalls are not even cleaned properly with major stains underneath and also no covers to block the sent when men pee on. Overall, this is sickening, and this whole building needs of employees needs to be known and held accountable and especially the management and the boss that owns this building. Shame on you!
