Long time patron, first time disappointed, can no longer recommend. After spending multiple thousands on the same meal over several visits, throughout the last six years, and singing the praise of Salty's to dozens of friends and family, this last visit will be the last to the Roseville highway location. Jury is still out on revisiting the white lane location? The atmosphere was pleasant, people were friendly and service seemed good, even with the odd smirks coming from some of the salty's crew as I picked up my food and drove off of the lot. I placed an order to go (1/2# tri-tip, 4 beef ribs and spicy mac) as I was traveling through Bakersfield. The two additional beef ribs is an upcharge and left a good tip (on average I tip the hard-working crews upwards of 33%. this visit I tipped just above 20%, everything I had on hand). When I was able to pull over and share the meal, my disappointment was realized. Even though I paid extra for 4 ribs, I received the equivalent of 2.5 ribs with respect to meat on the bone. Two of the ribs looked to have been leftover from another's plate or the remains of another's quick snack. (See images). I attempted to follow up with Salty's by phone and email, before making this post, but the information is limited or not available. There's no email contact and the phone number contacted is controlled by a computer. A computer that can only text restaurant locations. This limited contact may be an indication of a known problem... (Staff with bad attitudes leading to poor quality service?) Don't know for sure but it's still an unfortunate shame. Having said all that mess, it is my opinion not to eat the food provided as it could possibly be tainted. Never underestimate the mess (the harm) that can come from folks that do not respect themselves and others. Thanks for the good service and excellent food in all those past visits. However, based on this recent visit, I cannot foresee any future visits and will not know if the quality of food was just as good. No response...
Read moreWhen I'm in the mood for some BBQ, this place is what I think of, if I'm not going to cook at home. They don't rely on sauce to cover up their meat (like other places do). They let their skill on the grill come through to tantalize your taste buds. The meat is BBQ'ed as if I was smoking it at home. Their blend of spices are a masterpiece of flavor for the palette. If you want to know what you are getting look no further then right next to the window and you will see there trailer out and in the open, so there is no hiding what they are doing. The flavor is the same at either location.
The green beans are a great choice. They are a buttered, fresh green bean with minced garlic. My family love them and my wife has made them at home.
They have a delicious tri tip sandwich that is tender, moist and has fantastic smoke flavor. The sandwich is a French roll sized, hunger killing meal.
Another small detail is their rolls are grilled and buttered generously. The inside of the roll has a crisp crunch that is just perfect. I will buy a hot link and put it in between the crispy buttery rolls and make it into an amazing little sandwich.
I saw them on Diner, Dine In, and Dives. I have been to some other place DDD recommended, but I didn't care to much for them. This place is really is outstanding.
I dream of owning a franchise in this business, maybe someday. This place is always busy, the wait is always worth it.
Last thing to note. For those that are MSG sensitive, you won't find MSG here (from experience I have not actually asked them about what they use). Both my wife and I get migraines with MSG and we can eat here with no problems. I can even have the BBQ sauce (almost all BBQ sauces have MSG in them). The BBQ sauce is there own...
Read moregot the Salty Special 13 & change. Clerk stated stated 4 piece of tri tip, pull pork with bbq sauce already mixed in with pork topped with coleslaw. 1 piece of tri tip was a small end piece thinly sliced. other was a slightly bigger than the first andother 2 were same size. I didnt know pull pork would have sauce already mixed in, i would have preferred sauce on side so i could taste the meat. The tri tip taste ok. It is not the type of taste I where I'd be driving to get more of into my mouth. Bread/ bun very average. Slaw was good. not a sweet slaw, it is more sour. Saw Salty featured on Diner, Drivins & Dives & the sandwich they showed looked... more. Clerk couldnt tell me approx how much the weight of tri tip or how much the weight of pull pork in sandwhich. He just said it has 4 slices of tri tip. Was disappointed pull pork had bbq already mixed into it. Maybe a better choice for me would have been 1/4 lb tri tip & chicken. or 1/4 tri tip & 1/4 brisket. Bread make a good sandwich. Their bun left me wanting a better bun like a French or crusty bread. Its ok. Service was good. Didnt have to wait long for order to be taken or recieved. meat was not hot like it came off grill or oven. Was able to handle sandwich easily. Roll of paper towels on tables for napkins red checker table cloth on picnic bench table makes for a cute place. Got there around 1pm on a Monday. There was no bbq grilling outside no...
