Extraordinary Mexican food. Very authentic and delicious, albeit a bit higher on the price. They have a wide variety of Mexican cuisine, with a good variety of spice as well. Likely some of the best in St. Louis, and undoubtedly the best value with regards to what you pay for versus what you get. I come here at least once a month, and after trying almost everything on the menu, I can definitively say that I have never been disappointed, from the enormous, mild burrito supreme, to the extremely spicy bistec zacatecano, all the way to the unique cactus carnitas.
Their menu seems to change from time to time, but there's a set of "core" food that they keep, so you'll never be disappointed if play it safe. Striking out and going bold has yet to disappoint me either, however!
The alcohol selection is fairly good; my favorite is $20 pitcher of house margarita.
Free fresh tortilla chips and salsa whilst ordering and eating. Lately, I've found some dishes are greatly enhanced by using the chip as a sort of dipping vessel. For instance, their Diablo Bowl (I can't quite recall the full name of it...) went from simply delicious to my favorite dish in recent memory. Their cheese dip is also so good I had to find a similar recipe and make it at home.
Since I've gone rather consistently, I've found the service to be fairly solid. It seems to suffer if the restaurant is busy, but I've noticed a higher number of employees tabling lately, so it appears that they are rectifying that.
And finally, the price: relatively cheap, for the food you're getting, but pricier than your average fast food. I generally expect to pay $15 a person or so, more if I order alcohol or appetizers. The dishes can range from sub $10 to $18 for seafood or bistec (steak) dishes.
All in all, the best Mexican restaurant in the immediate area, and probably top 5 or 10 in St. Louis. The price for the food you get is probably only matched or beaten by Mexican restaurants in Texas. A long time for favorite for myself and my family, and I hope this restaurant is one I can take my future children to, to show them how Mexican food...
Read moreFirst of all, the food is amazing. I'm basic, I had enchiladas. I also have a sensitive stomach because I'm pregnant so it really hit the spot for me and I did NOT get sick afterwards! We got there and it was super busy so I told the lady "I will sit anywhere I'm just hungry" so we were happily sat outside.
Which I'm glad we sat outside. It's quieter and far more entertaining. The area it is in has lots of nice cars to look at and most are driven by older uppity women who day drink. We saw quite a few cars almost hit each other and get into flights with one another because they either can't drive or are clearly drunk which was a great show for us to watch while eating. Got a great laugh when one intoxicated older lady saw it was someone's birthday on the chalk board that worked there and very clearly and loudly stated "Looks like David is getting laid tonight ladies!!" And went inside asked for the birthday boy.
Either I'm easily entertained or I went at a great time because everything happening outside made sitting in the shade on a 90 degree day...
Read moreFirst time there. The food was excellent, but the service was severely lacking. The waitress did not seemed concerned with waiting the table after none of ordered any alcohol. After ordering drinks it was about almost 20 minutes before she came to see if we wanted to order any appetizers food, it was fairly busy but not too bad. Ordered appetizers and food, but the waitress didn't come back by the table to check on anything until about 20 minutes after the main dishes showed, and asked how things were in passing, she didn't even stop to ask. She later passed by again, this time to drop off the check with out asking if we were interested in desserts or anything else...this was then the first time she even checked on the table. I spent a decent amount of time in the hospitality industry, and know even if you're busy, make it a point to stop by and check durring and after each course. I hope this is not normal for the establishment, and she was just having an off day. As I said earlier the food was really...
