Ale Mary's is as other described: Local neighborhood bar with local color, beers, and tater tots. Overall, the corner pub had service was prompt and friendly, food left much to be desired, and excellent beer. I recommend this place only for the drinks and appetizers until the food quality is on par with the menu descriptions.
Service: Tables were seat-yourself. Ladies running the bar also doubled as servers- The service was friendly, quick, and knowledgeable.
Food: I noted before going that, based on google reviews, folks seemed on the fence regarding the food- I noted the comments about the food being a "spin" on cafeteria food, that the tater tots were good, and the Krispy Kreme dessert was out of this world. What did we find? The menu is quite extensive but the food doesn't measure up to the hype. We got a bowl full of buffalo chicken tots (Excellent) and were fairly excited about the menu. Overall, the food was a tremendous letdown: Purple Pork Roulade- Pork dish was very fatty, and it was like eating a large chunk of tasteless ham instead of a rich-sounding meat that was "stuffed with apples and brea cheese." Of the two folks who got the dish, the stuffing was lacking in both quantity and taste. Again, menu looks great, food was not.
Drinks: Modest to moderate selection of local and national beers. We had the "Resurrection," a Brewers Art beer, which was excellent- a nice, smooth belgian-style abby ale.
Atmosphere: Like many small, local taverns, this isn't fine dining, but is a good informal getaway for a group of friends pre-gaming for...
Read morePros: The decor is very interesting, and the atmosphere is nice. Great deals for daily specials and happy hours. Some of the drinks are quite tasty. The bread pudding is delicious, very sweet and more than satisfying. Our first impression at Ale Mary's was wonderful, and we returned multiple times.
Cons: Our last few visits, the food and drinks were rather hit or miss. e.g. We were told on one occasion that all crushes come with cream (which was a bit odd, but fine). On another day, the lime crush seemed like 85% water, 14% sprite, and 1% alcohol. The quality of the hot food seems to have gone down and could really use salt/seasoning. Previously the service was lovely, albeit a tad cliquish as another reviewer mentions. However, on our last visit we encountered a rude bartender that soured the experience for good... unfortunately will not be returning. No hate to the owners, who seem nice and clearly put effort into running this...
Read moreWorst dining experience. This neighborhood favorite has been a favorite or ours for years. But tonight ended that experience for us forever. The service was un-attentive and frankly terrible. They didn’t bring out our entrees together and after waiting 10 minutes more for my wife’s meal we called over our server who said “we’re really busy in the kitchen and very busy tonight”. It was a Thursday night about 9:30pm with lots of open tables. Of my mussels order several of the mussels had not been cooked enough to open. The Caesar Salad was odd tasting and drowning in dressing. We finally cancelled my wife’s entrée, which they “generously” said they would not charge us for. We asked to speak with the manager who turned out to be our server. So, no one was in charge. Do not waste a good evening in Fells Point at Ale Mary’s. There are lots of wonderful other...
