Hibiscus Restaurant — Restaurant in Baltimore

I got the curry salmon with rice and peas and cabbage with a cup of coffee. I asked for a cup of ice. They wanted to charge me .50 for ice even though I got a whole meal. The woman I spoke with seemed nice, but being Stingy over a cup of ice for neighborhood customer spending money in the restaurant, was not a good first impression. I was so excited about this place because it is close by.

Positive: the space is very nice and clean. The staff was nice. The rice and peas and cabbage was not sweet at all. Keep in mind there was curry juice on top of my rice so I could be biased. I asked for extra spicy, and it wasn’t spicy enough. However, they put in a good effort. The salmon was a good size, but it was hard.

I would choose this place over st. Mary’s next door any day. St. Mary’s rice and peas and cabbage has no flavor and the staff are too busy talking to each other to pay you any mind.

I am going to try this place again. Hopefully as a customer getting an entree and drink, they won’t be stingy with their cup of ice. Lol. Smh. I’m still not over that. I paid 17.00 and I had to argue about getting a free cup of ice for my super hot coffee?

This could have easily been a place I get food from everyday. But it looks like I might have to stick with Terra Cafe were a cup of ice comes free with...

Long story short: Nice place. Beware of menu choices.

Long story long: My first time here and I am not impressed. I had high hopes because this place is literally on my way home. I am taking some responsibility for maybe picking the wrong menu items. Everything isn't for everybody. The good... Staff was very friendly. Restaurant was clean. Good atmosphere. Pit beef was decent and out of convience I would go back for it.

The bad... The mac and cheese was like some cheez wiz/Velveeta box type stuff and that's not my fave. Originally I odered off the vegetarian menu. I ordered the veggie lasagna but they didn't have any made.

The ugly.... Shrimp lo mein was bad. A big bowl of noodles and barely had any vegetables (aka carrots and peas). Some of the smallest shrimp I've ever seen. No wonder the shrimp were over cooked. I hope they take the shrimp lo mein...

I recently had a first time delivery experience with them. I ordered curry chicken, rice&peas with steamed cabbage. Highly dissatisfied! They have an area where you can make a request to the kitchen. I fill it out requesting more curry juice. They did not oblige. The rice peas were mushy and overcooked. I ordered the large because I love curry chicken. They packed the bottom of my container with 5/6 servings of rice&peas, 6 small pieces of chicken and steamed cabbage. It was NOT flavorful at all. You tasted curry powder and nothing else. No seasoning on the chicken. Rice was so mushy and soft, I threw it all away. Maybe if it had be juicy, I could have at least consumed it. ...
