I loved sweet 27. Having to be gluten free for two years, this place was perfect, outside of their dry cupcakes. They have the best chicken I've ever had, and it's gluten free; that's saying something. The problem came with the hair on my food. I'm plagued with having strangers hair on my food 😑🤢. The bigger problem came with me calling and telling them about the hair. A women answered. I say that because I dont remember her name. Up until that point, I'd mostly dealt with the man who was the owner. I told her what happened. She said she was sorry and asked if there was anything else she could help me with. I said, "Yes, I want a refund ". I was shocked that she asked me that. She asked me could I come back. I told her no, because she's a 20 minute drive from me, and I spent my entire lunch going there and back. And I'd already offered to send her pictures. I have kinky hair, that's not straight or black. This hair came from someone in Asia or South America. I'm a black woman, my hair doesn't work this way, and proof by picture should've sufficed. Also it was short, and could've been from a beard/mustache or pube, honestly I don't know. She lied and told me I had to wait for the owner to come back for a refund. I say lied, because after several hours of waiting and having to call back, she ended up processing the refund before the owner came back. She just decided she didn't believe me. Well sweet 27, it may have taken a while, but here's your proof. I never deleted the photo because I'd always planned on posting this review. The owner knew I was a regular and probably told her to refund me when they spoke on the phone. I don't know why she was heck bent on not believing me and making the process more difficult. I Also don't know why she didn't automatically offer a refund immediately after me telling her about the hair. Sucks that she assumed that I wasn't being honest about this; especially with the offer of proof. Don't know why'd shed make such an assumption. Also, I believe it was in the sauce, and don't know how many hairs I may have...
Read moreExceptional food, varied menu, and the most gracious host in Baltimore. As someone who has been truly gluten free for more than 30 years, I had given up on eating restaurant food. Rarely could one find a meal that was tasty let alone truly guaranteed to be gluten free. For me, Sweet27 is a life changing experience and quite literally the best thing about Baltimore. Richard the owner and chief chef and baker has been perfecting his recipes for years, bringing recipes back from India as well as his own creations. Mussels, pizzas, fish tacos, as well as more exotic mideast and international cuisine -- actual breaded gluten free chicken wings that don't fall apart. When we go in there, I simply let Richard decide what we are going to eat and my palette has expanded. Richard also mixes the finest cocktails. Try his cucumber martini for a refreshing delight. Richard knows gluten free; we've talked several hours about what is and isn't and he is meticulous. You can order anything off the menu. And then there are the deserts, pastries, pies, cupcakes, and did I mention the focacia bread that is perfect with the mussels or just as an appetizer before dinner. It's been 3 decades since I've had bread before dinner. In addition Richard is the most gracious host and consequently everyone that works there is gracious and charming and truly dedicated to service. Furthermore, he also attracts a special clientele, a mix of working class and business folks all partaking of his exceptional cusine -- affordable as it is.... When I brought my elderly parents there to celebrate a birthday he treated them as if they were his own revered parents. It made for special evening. The few times that we have gone to other restaurants leave us saying why do we ever eat anywhere...
Read moreWow. Everything is gluten free, a lot is dairy free and delicious. It's a cute little place with a homey environment. We walked in through the little yellow side door and were greeted by a cute little bar. We decided to take a few steps up into the restaurant. The restaurant was warm and inviting. Violent Fems was playing on the speakers, and we found a table next to an outlet so we could do our homework. I had already eaten earlier so I ordered fries and a whiskey drink. Yum! The fries are dipped in a chickpea flour batter and fried. They were amazing. They have this cute little bakery with gluten-free and dairy free treats. We ordered treats "to go" along with soup. The treats and soup were amazing for a late night snack. My friend thought the music was too loud and couldn't study very well otherwise I would have sat there all night! I wanted to try so much on the menu. It has all my favorites, chicken wings to fried tofu and a great Indian menu with gluten-free naan! I will be back for sure! They have a thanksgiving menu to go that is gluten-free and dairy free, and comes with everything, including a pie! I'm not much into alcohol other than whiskey, but they seem to have a great drink list with unique beers and wine, too.
Edit 1/14/25 - I have been here several times, and it's always five-star service and food! I have to shout out any crispy tofu dish as well as curry! Today, I noticed a new drink menu on the table. I ordered the Masala Chai Sour. It was delicious. I couldn't taste the liquor but could feel it! It has fresh lemon, their signature masala chi syrup, and bitters. We also had their Black velvet raspberry cheese cake that is a valentines special. It is not dairy free or vegan, but it's worth it if you have to...
