Walked to Ice Queens with my daughter last evening for a snowball. Ever since I moved into Baltimore City from the County, I've wondered where the snowball stands were. Everywhere I've lived before had them and, during the summer, lines were always long to get the cool, sweet, and fun taste of the snowball with so many imaginative flavors. The trip to the snowball stand was a wonderful summer event and whole families would go together. And now we have one.
And what a great one it is. The service was fast and soooo friendly. The place was clean, attractive, and welcoming. Employees were all wearing masks. The snowballs were very reasonably priced and there was no need to ask for more syrup like I have to do at a lot of snowball stands. They are generous with their portions.
As an added attraction, there was live music set up outside. While we were there, they (mom, dad, and son, I believe) were singing songs from the 60's, so I knew them, but so did my daughter. My heart filled with some old-fashioned joy at seeing an older couple dancing in the street across the way from the shop. Somehow I felt this was what Baltimore was all about.
I should mention that they had lots and lots….and lots of flavors, but not the only one I've ever ordered—chocolate (although they did have chocolate syrup topping). So I was forced to try a new flavor and found out what I've been missing all these years.

Read moreWhen I tell you that this Baltimore charm is a good reason to visit Charm City, you can believe it. Well established and known in the city, this family owned business is just right for a refreshing quench or to stop your tummy grumbles until your next full meal. I popped into Ice Queens for a pick me up refreshment after a friend's recommendation. Sure enough it was one heck of a good recommendation. I thoroughly enjoyed the aromas of both pound and red velvet cakes being baked. Breakfast sandwiches being completed for orders. I was also met by some very kind persons that consisted of family members that own the spot. Vibrant art and creative lighting set a welcomed tone despite the all day rain forecast. I was assisted with a few suggestions to order because it was my first time visiting, but def not my last. I ended up being filled with a French toast, turkey bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. Washing it down with an egg custard, peach and mango snowball. Then to go, I took a red velvet muffin and pound cake. To top it all off and end my visit, I crushed an order of fresh hot beignet cakes. Yom❣️ Needless to say, my hour plus ride back home to Indian Head Maryland was much more enjoyable. Go inside and find out more about one of the jewels of Charm city......
