I'm not sure what kinda smear campaign is happening in these reviews as of late, but I've never had anything BUT a pleasant experience from Motzi. I've patroned this establishment loyally since 2020, even having used the pay what you can system for years. They've never treated me differently, always offering a smile and a warm loaf of bread.
From the Waverly Farmers Market to the brick and mortar building, this establishment is a community stalwart, and takes its stewardship to heart. They practice their principles. And there is a reason "community" is the most common word mentioned across reviews! Also, the bread is banging, simply put. The zataar focaccia makes like a weeks worth of tuna sammies, so its totally worth it. These are locally sourced and milled grains so its gonna be more earthy than white flour, but I'm here for it! The establishment is clean...like seriously clean, which is a hit or miss for even restaurants in this zipcode. And the product is astounding. When I take a loaf back to my office, I get looks.
All that to say, to the people who judge a take away bakery for their service 😒, I think you must be confused or you've allowed your political views on current events in the middle east to cloud your culinary judgement.
Motzi, keep being amazing. We see you. We love you.
Edit: I'm updating my review. Apparently even the bread is vegan. I. Have Been. Deceived! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that revelation honestly, as one of those southern belles who regularly clowns vegans in a "bless their heart" kinda way. I would never have even guessed, and now I'm questioning everything. Well,...
Read moreI first had Motzi bread when I was offered a bite of a sandwich on lunch break at work. The bite was wholesome, substantial and full of flavor that reminds you that bread is more than just a vessel for whatever you put on it. The grains that go into the flour have their own tastes and textures worth savoring. Motzi respects the ingredients and it shows in the incredible breads, bialys, danishes, croissants, etc. they work so hard to make. Since then I’ve scarcely gone a week without something from Motzi, and the People’s Loaf has replaced the plastic bagged bread I bought at the grocery store. My Saturday mornings are made better by trips to the best smelling corner in Charles Village, being greeted by the kind and talented bakers. I have also seldom encountered an establishment that puts their principles into practice. They believe that everyone deserves to eat well and that the earth which feeds us must be loved and celebrated. The nourish their community’s stomachs and souls and everyone in Baltimore is lucky to have a...
Read moreWell, what can I say? This small community forward bakery in Baltimore's Charles Village is nothing short of outstanding. I barely know the owners, Russel and Maya, but they have put together such a lovely spot, that one day - beyond the pandemic - many Baltimoreans will adopt Motzi Bread as their "happy place" destination.
But until then, anyone who want's the most amazing bread for miles can make the trip and see for themselves. But, the bread sells out! Check out their website to see "what's doin'" before you go.
This bread is marvelous! I could go on about the fresh flour ground on the premises from local wheat-berries, the complex and satisfying flavor, but this is something that you need to experience yourself if you are a "bread-head" like me.
In closing, I want to mention that I was lucky enough to have a vegan peach whole grain danish, which Russel sliced a fresh peach for the topping right before my eyes. It tasted amazing, and I only regret not taking a picture of it before it...
