I'm glad this place changed it's name from vale tudo, to the Rockwell, it far more matches the aesthetic of the place. it is very cool, sleek space with awesome images projected on to the walls, of Baltimore, of classic music iconography, and pop art. the music here focuses more on the rock/indie spectrum and they have cool nights, like 2000s pop punk/emo, and other awesome music you might not hear at many venues in Fells. Drink prices are a little higher end but it's definitely worth it because it feels like a little piece of fletchers lives on (same owner/patron of keeping fells point full of music) i wish that they had pool tables because that was one of the coolest parts of fletchers besides being a venue that was a huge supporter of the local music scene. Anyway Rockwell is definitely an awesome place to hear some nostalgic tunes and have a few cocktails. They have some strange hours, they open kind of on the late side on some nights and I think they may be closed on Mondays. But it is nestled near some other gems like the blarney stone, Todd Connors and lil Phil's so if you can't get in to the Rockwell, blarney stone has pool tables (some nights are league nights) and a sick jukebox, Todd connors has trivia night and some delicious food and lil Phil's is cheap & divey in the best...
Read moreI decided to go for a walk around Fells after work on this beautiful Thursday night. I came across The Rockwell, and, from the outside, this was a really cool looking spot! I went in to feel it out and try a drink or two. I was immediately greeted by the rudest bouncer I’ve ever encountered. He essentially slapped my shoulder, which really upset me. I don’t even like my friends to hit me, so a total stranger doing it is totally unacceptable. When I turned around to see who was touching me, I realized it was security. He then proceeded to, with a piss poor attitude and expression, non-verbally gesture at needing to see my ID. Both my friend and I turned over our IDs, which he took rudely with a grunt. He then insinuated we both had fake IDs (we have both been servers and bartenders, so I know how to check the authenticity of a driver’s license) and questioned my friend, all the while keeping his ID as if he wasn’t going to return it. Finally, the bartender said something to him and he let us enter. By the time this whole thing was over, we were sick of the place. We decided to leave without ever even ordering a single thing. Your bouncer with the terrible attitude just cost your business two potential customers, and I’m sure we’re...
Read moreOk. Ok. Ok. I may be 34 years old, but my little emo pop punk heart throbs when I'm in this bar. The DJ always plays the most incredible playlist, leaving you with the kind of night where you sing at the top of your lungs and dance till your feet ache. The kind of night that leaves you smiling for days. He also has the most killer taste in music ever ever ever. The staff at the Rockwell is phenomenal. After feeling a little weirded out by another customer, security was quick to make sure that my friends and I felt safe and comfortable. Jacey is always there to sling drinks and have an awesome time and is a stand up babe and the other bartenders are also so friendly and inviting. Apparently they also upgraded the liquor selection, which is fantastic because you know us old broads can't handle a hang over the way we used to. All in all, highly recommend if you want to have...
