The lobster roll and shrimp & crab sandwich were both amazing. They definitely know what they are doing, it felt like the perfect ratio of cheddar cheese, shrimp, crab, thousand island, bread toasted really perfectly, everything got a moment to shine while I had that sandwich and each bite was scrumptious down to the last. I consider myself a little bit of an amateur sandwich connesuir, and this is up there on the list of best sandwiches I have had.
I do have to say a 30$ meal came with a 99 cent bag of kettle chips was kind of humorous. I would think that if they can craft such beautiful sandwiches they could figure out a potato. As someone who can take down 6000+ calories in a day when they handed me the to-go container I almost thought they were joking because it felt empty. They also charge a 1.5$ fee for to go orders which literally was just a paper to go container, so you might as well eat in. Tony seems to be business savvy, can't hate on that. Most working men are going to need two of these meals to really feel full.
I would certainly recommend it at least once, but if you are on a budget Coos Bay has a bunch of great places to eat where you get double the food for half the price. Also the little tackle shop attached is pretty cool and has...
Read moreSince we were on the Oregon Coast, we really wanted seafood with a view of the ocean. This fit the bill. It's just across the parking lot from the water. The inside is small, maybe 6 tables. There is four times as much seating outside, but it was full when we arrived which was fine because we just got it to go and took it over to one of the benches by the water. You do order at the counter, there will be a line, it does close at 7:00 pm and they will run out of items like crab as it gets close to 7:00 pm.
We had the crab sandwich, the crab cocktail, and a couple of beers. It seemed pretty pricey for an order at the counter, and you get it with a bag of chips or a little container of Coleslaw. However, the sandwich and the cocktail were both very good. The sandwich was served on two slices of butter toasted bread with leaf lettuce, just a dollop of sauce and lots of delicious crab. Seriously a delicious sandwich. The crab cocktail was loose crabmeat with a little bit of cocktail sauce. Again, the crabmeat was utterly delicious. It was definitely worth trying. I'm not sure how often I would go as it doesn't seem like a very good value, but if you want to treat yourself, this is a...
Read moreOne of my favorite local restaurants! My favorites are the oyster sandwich, or the halibut dinner (the halibut sandwich has a Mediterranean sauce on it, not my favorite but the halibut dinner is delicious).
Update, only because I wrote this originally prior to my diagnosis of Celiac Disease. My above review stands, however I now can't eat the sandwich obviously.
I still love Tony's. It's still quite possibly my top favorite local restaurant. The seafood is always impeccably fresh and prepared skillfully (and I am surrounded in my life with high end professional chefs, so I know of what I speak), and the service is always friendly and efficient.
The oysters, as it turns out, happen to be gluten free. So I still get to enjoy them, just not on the sandwich. I always take my order home to eat it anyway, I just live a couple of minutes away, so I can still make a sandwich out of the oysters using my own sandwich buns that are gluten free. Or, most of the time I don't bother, the oysters are delicious with a little tartar sauce.
I also love their fish tacos, they use fresh, locally caught rockfish and they accompany it with a nice aioli which is not too spicy and has...
