Coffee Shop No. 491 Fred and Larry’s Coffee Banner Elk, NC April 7, 2025
This is my second time visiting Fred and Larry’s Coffee Shop in Banner Elk, North Carolina. The first time was September 13, 2021; the ending stages of COVID so customers were not allowed in the shop. I ended up drinking coffee outside with three local gentlemen; one of the them was Larry. He is an owner and a Marine Veteran. We had some good laughs and I learned a lot about Banner Elk and the surrounding area.
After visiting Fred and Larry’s Coffee the first time, I realized I wanted to make exploring local coffee shops a part of my life; and here I am almost 500 coffee shops later.
On my second trip I enjoyed a cortado while relaxing on Fred and Larry’s big comfy leather couch. The barista was super friendly. She is definitely an incredible asset to the shop.
Thank you Fred and Larry for making delicious coffee and providing a relaxing setting to meet new people and dream up new adventures in life.

While staying in Banner Elk, we all had a hankerin' for some good coffee!Located across from Food Lion on Tynecastle, this little gem of a place has so many choices it can be mind-boggling. 5 of us visited Larry on a Wednesday night close to closing time, and each of us agreed it was some of the best coffee we have ever had. The Cuban Rush is Larry's favorite, and it is now mine too. I only know it's his favorite because when it was my time to order, I told him to "fix for me whatever you consider your coffee of choice." Definite home run. We will be visiting again on our way out of town, and it will be one of our first stops on our next visit to the area. The prices are comparable to all other coffee shops we have visited, and the service (and music, decor, overall atmosphere) make the coffee all that much more tasty. Our excursion consisted of my Cuban Rush, Toasted Coconut (aMAZEing style), Sugar Cookie Cappuccino, Reese's, and a Cocomo shake! I don't believe you will be...
Read morespent some time in banner elk, came across this coffee shop. was so thrilled to find this little oasis in the mountains.. great barista, Natalie.. She was a barista from coffee heaven. would give anything to have a coffee shop like this in the city where I live. some of the best artwork I have seen in the world and have been to many places. The coffee was the best ive ever had in the U.S. I would consider myself a coffee snob. I am not easy to please!!! I was able to experience the drum circle and open mic night on Fridays and had so much fun and learned a lot from the members of the group. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and tried the island drinks, kratom and kava, I have to say after acclimating to the earthy taste, I would recommend anyone try these pacific island delights. THANK YOU, FRED AND LARRYS for such a wonderful experience in Banner Elk. I not only plan to go back but will encourage my friends to do the...
