My mom is a picky eater and usually she has a negative comment about most places we visit but after tasting her mussels and lemon curd cake, she only had great reviews. She doesn’t like milk, butter or cream so it is hard to find her food in any restaurant that doesn’t use those ingredients in their dishes. We were surprised that her mussels had a fresh light marinara sauce without all that heavy cream or butter.
My mom also dislike sweets so I am usually the one to indulge in desserts but as soon as she tried a bite of my lemon curd cake (which my waitress recommended over my usual chocolate cake request) she ate more than the half of it.
She was genuinely delighted so I knew I had to leave a 5 star review.
My lobster linguine was delicious and I loved how you see every bits of the lobster as if the the shell was still on, so it showed that it was fresh and carefully removed.
The linguine was perfectly cooked al dente. My picture doesn’t do justice to the dish cause as I ate, more pieces of lobsters appeared- a real treat!
The restaurant is small but has plenty of seating. It seems that bartender is also serving food from the kitchen since it was next to each other. The restroom is straight down the hall from the main entrance.
We came from a cruise to Alaska so we had limited time to explore but it seems that Mangiare was the only restaurant in a small area with only a handful of shops.
I didn’t notice the name on the window and was using google maps to look for a place to eat but was drawn in by the Sitka Hotel and Lounge sign that was over the entrance door.
This restaurant was definitely a highlight in Sitka. Pricing is actually cheaper than most seafood dishes in Miami, Florida. My mom and I truly enjoyed our food and will look for Mangiare on...
Read moreIt took just shy of an hour for us to go from being sat to receiving our appetizer. The fellas working the floor appeared to have no sense of urgency. There were pretty inattentive... We did not get checked up on but once while we were there. Our waters were not refilled until we had to notify them. When asked about our appetizer after nearly 30 minutes, he definitely had the "appetizer? What appetizer?" face on, so pretty sure that was forgotten.
The halibut nuggets were huge and delicious. Best part of the dinner. The lobster ravioli were huge, but really tangy and didn't taste the lobster through the sauce. The Bolognese was a success, and the lemon crab linguini was yummy but super super saucy which kindof drowned the crab.
Overall, the food was fine, but not impressed with the service. But I wouldn't make a point to come again for the service and price of the experience nor would I...
Read moreAbout the only good thing I have to say about this place is that they are open on Sunday evenings, otherwise I would have been at Beak or Ludwig's. I gave up waiting to be greeted on arrival after being ignored for several minutes, and seated myself at the bar. The bartender was engaged to begin with, but wouldn't come back to take my food order despite catching his eye several times. The seafood chowder special was hugely underwhelming. It was served in a very shallow bowl so not only was it tiny, but it was halfway cold by the time it reached me. Being in Alaska I expected delicious chunks of salmon and halibut, but the contents were all so tiny it was hard to tell the contents, beyond teensy pieces of clam. It was tasty enough, but it's really hard to go wrong with chowder. I paid $16 for this experience. I heard that the restaurant at the Sitka Hotel used to be good, but definitely...
