(Review from a Chinese-Vietnamese person) Ordered takeout for 5 people for the Bears-Packers game on Sunday. The food is "alright" - wasn't bad, wasn't great, just "meh."
We ordered BBQ pork bao, crab rangoon, chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, beef chow fun and kung pao chicken.
Now onto the review.. My biggest issue is how bland everything tasted. Nothing was exciting, including the Bao, which is what I was most optimistic for given that it's the LITERAL name of the restaurant. The crab rangoon was also a disappointment. It isn't made in-house but premade from a factory just like their egg rolls based on the pictures from other users. Full disclaimer: Lots of Chinese restaurant buy pre-made appetizers so I'm not picking on this restaurant specifically, but it's still disappointing to see the lack of effort whenever I see it. I understand why they do it (Chinese apps are SO time consuming to make) but doesn't mean I agree with the decision
The entrees were nothing to run home about either. Every thing we tried never excited us but at least it wasn't bad, just not good. Food was just a mechanical thing to fill our hunger but not satisfy our taste buds.
Long story short, the food was.. fine. No care really went into the food but at least it wasn't bad. Our party was able to finish everything but we didn't feel "good" about what we just ate. If you're looking for a quick bite with decent portion, you can go with Bao Chinese Gourmet, but I recommend looking elsewhere because...
Read moreWith a strong desire for some good Chinese food in the Bartlett area, I was hoping to find that in Bao Gourmet. I was definitely let down. The food options beyond the drive thru lane in Bartlett, are very limited. Ethnic foods in the area especially seem to be bastardized with american influence and not very well made or presented. The food was below par. The General Tso's Chicken was completely over battered and swimming in the nasty orange grease that one would expect a seasoned cook to drain before serving, the Mongolian beef was made with nasty little julienne pieces of dry, tough meat and random chop suey vegetables not any where even closely resembling something I would see at an average run of the mill strip mall chinese greasy spoon. My guess is that like the other restaurants that have failed in that spot, with the sub par food and operations, their doors may stay open another year or two, or at least until the bank...
Read moreThe place is ok, it is a bit hard to get to because it is kinda hitten in a small food plaza. I have bought 3 times carryout food, and the three times they over cook the breaded chicken, GENERAL TSO AND SESAME CHICKEN, the consistency is RUBERRY AND VERY CHEWY, it seems its seems to be like chicken they already had cooked previously early in the day and the fry it again. it actually hurts your haw when you bit on it. I keep hopping they cook it right the next time but I don't think it will happen any time soon, I have told the lady in the front and she says they must have just overcooked it that one time, well it's EVERY TIME!!! So for that reason I give them a 1 star. On the other hand the lo mein is good. We order the chicken lo main and it is really good. So, I'm a all 5 star ir just 1 star when I do the ratings and this is a 1 star rating because their chicken is so bad when it comes to DEEP FIRED...
