I have been wanting to eat here for a while, and I finally got the chance since we were in Germantown (we live an hour and half away). The decor of the restaurant is very nice. I found the chandelier at the entrance a bit out of place with the rest of the restaurant, but hey, I am not an interior decorator lol. I came to eat here on March 13 with my wife and we were not disappointed. The server, whose name starts with J, but as I am posting this a little late I do not remember his name, greeted us promptly and told us to have a seat of our choosing. Very nice tall guy and very attentive. I ordered the 3 piece (2 breast and a wing) with a side of Mac and cheese. My wife had the 3 piece tenders. I got the fried green tomatoes as the app. The breading on the fried green tomatoes could use some more seasoning, as they lacked a little in flavor, but they were still good. The BEST part of this meal was the chicken Y'all when I tell you this is some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. Extremely tender and juicy. Not dry or chewy in any part of my three piece. And the seasoning they had on the breading of the chicken. I still think about it. My wife's tenders were tender and juicy as well, but the breast piece was the best. The slaw and baked beans that came as sides were a little on the sweeter side for my taste, but that is definitely some good Mac and cheese. Not overly cooked and real cheese. Not just smothered in some cheese sauce. And the pie yall.we got a slice aloft sweet potato pie and it did not disappoint. Perfect balance of sweet and spices, and the crust was perfect as well. Will definitely be back because I overheard someone say they got spicy as well and I think I just ordered the regular because I didn't see that option on the menu. The staff was nice and friendly. Definitely look forward to...
Read moreUnexpected HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE, with Gus Restaurant (Mendenhall), on Tuesday evening (2/18/25) after braving the winter storm to retrieve several chicken meal orders. When I soon realized within an hour of purchase, after arriving home to begin feasting on the chicken strip dinner. That the chicken was extremely hard on the outside and appeared to have been sitting out for a while. So much so, that I had to open up the strips to pull the most meat from inside, because the skin and outer part of the chicken was too hard to chew. Only to be informed by management, after I called right back to notify them, and to request a reorder to pick up later in the week after the road conditions were safe again. That I would have to brave the winter weather and drive back to the restaurant with chicken in hand so they could confirm I still had the chicken. 😳 When I advised that this was not sanitary, safe, nor proper customer service to request a customer return cooked food taken from the restaurant, as if it was a shirt. Especially when I have my receipt of purchase. When I was told to freeze the chicken and return when the roads were safe again, as that was the only way to secure the managers approval to replace the order. So my response to this horrible customer service is "HEYYYYY... Ah ahhh......is this 4real!! 😱 Thanks... but no thanks! That was my last day patronizing Gus Restaurant (Mendenhall)..EVER IN THIS...
Read moreI love Gus's chicken. I brag to people in Cali they can't get this. Tonight was a terrible experience at this one. We walked around 8 on Friday and it was busy. Decided to get it to go. Planked down 70 bucks for 8 pieces of chicken a large Cole slaw, and large Mac and cheese plus a whole sweet potato pie. The food was all cooked but there were a bunch of employees standing in the kitchen chatting. Told us twenty minutes to get it ready. My wife waited for the food about 25 minutes and brought it out. 6 pieces of chicken, no breasts, 4 slices of white bread and two styrofoam cups with sides. I was polite, went in to say the order was short about 30 bucks worth of food. The desk person gave the bag of chicken to the guy behind the fryer and he proceeded to take each piece out by hand and place it with the other cooked chicken. When she returned with the pie he looked her in the eye and lied saying he gave us 8 pieces. She told him to give us extra chicken. She handed it over, apologized for the inconveniences and said goodbye. Get home to find, 8 pieces of chicken, no extra. Thought I got what I paid for be satisfied. No, dudes a liar. What's the point? Or he can't count. I called back about the burnt Gus's chicken they lied about. She apologized again but really didn't mean it. No I don't want more chicken. Throw a rock in Memphis and you'll hit three chicken shacks. Sorry Gus's but you lost me and all of the...
