TL;DR the food needs the flavor to match it's portion sizes.
First the positives.
Food.
The Guacamole Mexicana was some of the best fresh made guacamole I've had in a long time, I loved it. The chips were given in generous portions and the queso was very good. The food was in the proper portions and the prices were quite good for those portions. The beer pitcher arrived fast and came with well chilled mugs to drink from.
Service.
The server who waited on our table was very friendly and highly attentive, checking in very often but not at all over staying his welcome at the table. A very good server.
Now for the negatives.
Service.
The host didn't communicate much and left my friends and I waiting around with no update for 5 minutes or so after our wait to get in was already over. The food also seemed to take a while even though at the time the restaurant was more or less empty. (To be somewhat fair on this point it was within an hour and a half of their closing time)
Food.
My meal was the grande chimichanga, and my two friends got the california burrito and fajita quesadilla, the food looked very good. The first thing I noticed however was that there wasn't a very strong aroma coming from the plate in front of me and with my first bite I found out that it was because not only was the food underseasoned and bland, but it was also deep into room temperature. The food was a bit dry, and disappointingly tasteless. My friends and I passed bits of each of our dishes around for comparison. Each was equally disappointing.
We left full, and happy with the service, but altogether it was a middling experience that I might consider having again, but I'd stick to just the guacamole next time. The best thing they can do to improve is simply to season their food to some appreciable...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the service here. I came in a large group, and I could tell that the serves were aggravated that they had to serve a group of 30 people. We had two tables, one with parents and another with teenagers. When they took our orders, they asked each parent which kid was theirs and took that family's order. Because of this, me and two others did not get our order taken as we did not come with a parent. I waited thirty minutes until I finally raised my hand to get the attention of a waiter. Multiple waiters saw me before one came. Later, my friend did not understand what a server saying as he handed her tortillas for her fajitas, and he yelled at her. One of my friends did not receive her meal until an hour and a half after the rest of the group had gotten their meals, and when they brought it out the order was wrong. I asked one waiter for my check, and he never came back. My friend asked another if me and two others could get our checks, and she looked her straight in the eyes and walked away. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. El Mezcal not only has much better food, but much...
