Was really disappointed after eating here. My wife and I like trying new local restaurants, and we were excited to try this place after seeing a few advertisements.
The building, decor, and space is great. You can tell it’s new and well cleaned. This place has potential, but needs some work.
We went for breakfast and it wasn’t too busy at all. There were 2 friendly servers bouncing from table to table, as well as checking out customers and dealing with to-go & door dash orders. They seemed very understaffed in the front of house.
My wife ordered a coffee with cream. When they brought the coffee out they forgot the cream. About 5-7 minutes later (after the coffee cooled down) they brought the cream, however it was half and half not real cream. They ended up having to bring us milk from the kitchen, which took another 5 minutes because they did not have regular cream. My wife then asked to be topped off on her coffee because it was cold, and the coffee they poured was room temperature, and not hot at all.
For the food. My wife ordered the breakfast bowl and I ordered a goetta, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. I made sure to ask if the egg was “hard” as I do not like yolk. The server assured me that’s how they make this sandwich. When we got our food I went to pick up the sandwich and yolk squeezed out everywhere. The kitchen ended up remaking the sandwich.
My wife enjoyed her breakfast bowl, and I really liked the home fries that came with the sandwich they had a great flavor. The sandwich however was not good. It came on whole grain ciabatta, and the ciabatta was thick and overpowered the sandwich. It was also toasted too much. I couldn’t taste the goetta or cheese unless I picked them off out of the sandwich. I recommend using another type of bread or a Texas Toast instead.
It has potential if they work through some simple issues. We however will not be back. There are too many other good breakfast places to go to...
Read moreHad read/ heard so many good things about this place. My mother and I ventured there for lunch/ brunch on a Tuesday at 1pm.. It was not busy at all . We were only people there sans one man seated in back reading. Place was clean and there are several TV's on above the bar type seating. I ordered one of the specials from their chalkboard: strawberry pancake waffles and mom ordered a loaded ( poked yolk) omelette. They didn't have whipped cream ( which was 1/3 of taco ingredients) so I got basically cut up strawberries in a taco shaped pancake. I would've changed order if I was made aware before food was brought out. But nope, as she sat it down she apologized, and offered me something else, which at that point, nope, not waiting while my dining partner eats. Mom reported omelet was ok. ..she felt it lacked something despite being "loaded". I wanted to like this place, I remembered reading about it when it opened, but hadn't had chance to visit before now. When I'm informed as they are sitting food that the dish is missing an essential ingredient, then informed that NO ONE had ordered this particular special all day so she wasn't aware they were out, AND she had been on vacation the week prior..( don't know what that has to do with lack of care,/ service,) also the truck wasn't there yet that delivers whipped cream. Anyway, like I said I wanted to like this place, but complete lack of communication between what I'm guessing we're the only 2 employees in restaurant really is unacceptable. I e never worked in a restaurant that didn't know how to "86" an item that lacks ingredients. We ate, , paid and left. Full but not satisfied. If I happen to be back in Batavia, I may try this place again. But the first blush left a bad taste...
Read moreThis is a COVID era review. All protocols were in place. This Poked Yolk location is tucked out of the way in a small shopping center. The interior is minimal but modern. Some good alt rock music plays unobtrusively in the back ground. On my quest to sample every serving of biscuits and gravy in my ever changing immediate surroundings, I decided to see what this little venue had to offer. The biscuits are light and fluffy, but dense enough to support a generous portion of sausage gravy. They are also slightly on the sweet side. The gravy was creamy and delicious, with the sausage evenly distributed in tiny pieces. Good coffee here, too. Service was stretched a little thin, there only being one server for the time I was there, so I was forgiving on that front. The server was diligent and very sweet nonetheless. I will go back and try the diverse menu. Limited hours here, with daily breakfast specials for $4.99 from 7 to 11am, and open till 3pm. Hope this can be a regular place to breakfast.
UPDATE: My visit today was not as enjoyable as my last visit, so I deducted a star. Arrived around noon to a mostly empty lobby. Once again there was only one server, Phoenix, but he was diligent and attentive. I tried the chicken and biscuit from the brunch menu. The chicken tenders, ironically, were not tender. The gravy was thick and pasty. The side of home fries (diced potatoes) came on a slick film of grease. This was not the quality I have experienced in the past. I suppose I will have to limit my visits to earlier hours when the food is fresher. This felt like...
