Your experience here could be hit or miss. For me it started out as a hit then went to a miss. Haven't been back since.
I'll try to make this brief since I could go on forever. They have a great selection of games and DVD's. Prices are okay. Customer service is where I think they lack. My first trip to disc traders was great. I bought Super Smash Bros Melee and the guy who helped me was super cool. Disc looked to be in good condition.
At the time I was running tournaments for Super Smash Bros Melee so I had a Wii and three GameCubes. When I got home from disc traders I popped in the just-bought Melee disc into my personal GameCube. Disc read error. Messed around with it and couldn't get it to work. Tried it in my other Cube, still didn't work. I tried the disc in every GameCube and Wii I had and it didn't work. Closer inspection of the disc revealed a half-circle scratch on the top label. If you didn't know, scratches on the top label of a disc are bad because that's where the data is stored. No problem though, I had the receipt I'd just return it.
Next day I show up and the same guy is working the counter. I explained that the disc wasn't being read and showed him the scratch. He explained that they don't take returns of GameCube discs because they had a history of people buying good discs and switching out the discs for bad ones and returning them. But he was nice and said he'd talk to his manager since he remembered me and I was pretty nice.
So he takes my disc and goes into the back. He's back there for like five minutes. Finally the manager walks out with the disc in hand walks right up to me and puts the disc in my face and says, "Show me where the scratch is on this disc?". I'm surprised because his tone was angry. I explained my situation to the manager and showed him the half-circle scratch at the top. After squinting at the disc for a while he said he couldn't see the scratch and he wouldn't take the return. I pointed out the sign that said "We take all returns" they had up. He then said it didn't apply to GameCube games and then accused me of switching the disc I had bought with a bad one. At that point it was my word against his and I was pissed so I just told him to give me the game back and I wouldn't return it, which he smugly complied.
The next tournament I had I brought the disc with me. I tried it on six more GameCubes and three Wii's they all had a disc read error. Finally, some kids Wii was able to read the disc. I ended up giving the disc to the kid because I was disgusted by the whole situation.
TLDR Great selection, decent prices, jerk manager, hit-or-miss...
Read moreI literally don't even want to give this place one star, my experience last night was so horrendous, and truthfully the time before wasn't so great either. I called around 3pm to ask when they stop taking stuff in, I had a laptop to sell. I told them this as I wasn't even sure they take laptops. They said they do, and that they stop taking at 8:30pm. We arrived at the store at 7:57pm. We were informed that laptops take 2-5 hrs to take because they have to do 2 resets. We drove almost an hour, why wasn't I informed of this on the phone? I asked that as I was pretty frustrated, there was a guy, (assuming management) sitting behind a computer, didn't look up, simply said, "I'm sure you were told that on the phone!" Very rude, implying that I was told that and what, basically decided to waste my time driving all the way there to argue and be treated as if I was inconveniencing them? My friend was with us, the reason I needed to take this in was because I have a family emergency up north and needed to get there. So she said she would go get a couple game remotes she had at her house and we could bring them in to help out. So we ran to her house which is literally 10 min away, we arrived back at 8:29pm according to my clock, the "manager guy" informed me that he stops taking trades at 8:30pm, and that it was now 8:31! I was shocked as he knew the situation, I hadn't been rude, I expressed my frustrations, but in a decent manner, and he was extremely pleased with himself. I was there on time, and seriously, one minute? So I wasted 2hrs of my time for nothing, just to be treated like they are too good for my business. I have spent a lot of money in this store, I won't be back. Clearly it's too much to ask for them to be informative and professional, so from now on I will take my business elsewhere. The last time I was there, I had a question and was also asking for help finding something and the girl with dark hair rolled her eyes and was short and snappy. Well I guess if you organized your store a bit you wouldn't have these problems! So...
Read moreThey won't make up for their own mistakes, and they won't give you a refund easily. A couple months ago, I had bought a game called Rune Factory 3. Except that it didn't say Rune Factory 3 on the cartridge when an employee had put the game into the case. I brought it up to that employee, but they said "no, this is Rune Factory 3", and I told them that it definitely wasn't. He shrugged it off and didn't take me seriously, so I said "I'll call you if it ends up not being Rune Factory 3." so I took that home and eventually started playing, and lo, it was Rune Factory 1. I immediately called them and explained the situation, they said they'd help fix it for me the next time I came in. So I came in about a couple hours afterwards, annoyed, exhausted, having wasted so much time and money on a mistake the employee made. I told the manager I wanted a refund, they said they don't do refunds and that "Well if we gave everybody a refund that wanted it, we would be out of business", this was the same day I bought it mind you, it isn't like I am renting games for free from them. He kept asking questions about what happened, saying they'll talk to that employee and apologizing about it, but never offering to make it up for me in any way but offering in-store credit to an equivalent to the cartridge or getting me the cartridge I intended to buy. Question after question regarding the problem, slowly, until he finally said "Welllllllll, okayyyyyy, I guess we'll give you a refund this onnnne time." I was so tired after that, I hardly have any energy at the end of the day, being disabled, and that is an experience I will never have again. I will happily buy from any alternative to this place, it'll be cheaper or safer anyway. I won't let myself be waited out and exhausted over a 15$ purchase, because some employee wouldn't double-check their stock, or the manager of the store is too stubborn. And don't respond to this saying you're sorry, Disc Traders, I already got enough of that while you stalled me for...
