Exceptional service and delicious food & beverages!
We arrived just as things started hopping for dinner service and were seated and brought ice water immediately. Sienna was our primary server and she was an absolute delight!
Sienna recommended the calamari appetizer and we were NOT led astray; it was super fresh and cooked perfectly (not overcooked or rubbery) and the slightly spicy house-made dipping sauce was total perfection. I could eat it on EVERYTHING! They honestly should bottle and sell the stuff. We were told that the chefs cut the calamari fresh every day rather than rely on the bleached/frozen rings you often find at other places, and that freshness really shined through.
We additionally ordered the xiao long bao (lovely broth, perfect vinegar dipping sauce), a shogun roll (one of the best rolls I have ever had!), and the Gen Sushi combo (8 pieces of nigiri, a House Roll, and miso soup). Every item we ordered was fresh and delicious; the rolls were each well balanced in ingredients and sauces/toppings and the fish was all super fresh. Even the sushi rice was perfectly seasoned and in appropriate proportion to the fish and the ginger was freshly and thinly shaved. We each had a beer (Sapporo and Asahi - served cold in a bottle along with an ice cold glass to serve in) and a tasty lemon-grenadine cocktail.
Sienna was exceptionally attentive, never letting an empty glass or plate remain on the table as she passed by. The rest of the service team also worked seamlessly together - delivering dishes to other servers' tables as they were ready to go out so that no customer was left waiting for a ready dish, clearing dishes as they passed by, filling waters, etc. While the restaurant was completely packed and there was a constant flow of take-out orders, the staff never seemed stressed, they worked efficiently together, and tables were not left waiting long for their orders.
The space is well decorated and very clean. The main portion of restaurant is not very large, with maybe 10 or so 4-tops, but there is also an outdoor patio area with plenty of seating and heaters for the chilly weather.
Gen Sushi has put together a coordinated service team and a solid menu. Their restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for fresh and tasty food and...
Read moreI would go to Gen sushi regularly just to chat with Sgt. Zhen, but also the sushi is quality! Sgt Zhen is a USMC Veteran, and eager to chat. He kept offering to buy drinks for us (a table of four), and finally just brought Ika Tempura and urged us to try it. Thank you Sgt Zhen! It was delicious!
Last week I tried Xiao Long Bao for the first time, as I stick to tuna and salmon sashimi mostly, but like to try things I don't always get. I order xiao long bao every time to fill the cracks now.
Atmosphere: it's not a large restaurant, with lots of floor space, although the patio area does provide more breathing space, I would not recommend the inside for hosting a party. Otherwise, just plan accordingly and call ahead for groups larger than four to check seating availability during peak time. Comfortable and spotless seats and tables though!
Service: simply put, fantastic. It is apparent that the waitresses/waiters pay close attention to when diners may be ready to order, and approach politely right when you need them. Food is delivered quickly, always in an aesthetically pleasing presentation. Awesome crew all around.
Food: Sushi has been my favorite food since touring the world with the Navy in the early 2000's, and while the quality is subtle with sushi (unkess it's really bad, but then you just get sick), I can confidently say that I haven't found fresher sushi anywhere in Clark County. I've looked. If you have never tried sushi before, start here and ask questions. Let the staff know, and they will happily spend plenty of time with you. Sgt Zhen visited with us so much (I enjoyed his conversation, and look forward to it in the future) that I felt a tad guilty for bothering him with questions during his tasks... and he drove the conversation eagerly.
Price: while it may be more expensive than cringe McD's, you get what you pay for... their prices are correct, and I have no issue paying every time I go. Sushi isn't the cheapest food, but it's also not the most available. Gen Sushi is worth the price.
I will be returning, probably too often for the pocketbook, in the future. I will update my post with pictures next time I go... most...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Gen Sushi for the third time, and once again, it did not disappoint. The quality of the sushi was exceptional, and the service was impeccable. The staff were welcoming and friendly, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
The seating area is a bit cramped, but the cozy atmosphere makes up for it. There is also outdoor seating available, which is perfect for those who prefer more space. The parking can be a bit tight, but it's worth it for the delicious food.
Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the house roll, which was an explosion of flavors in my mouth. The combination of avocado, cream cheese, and imitation crab was absolutely divine, and the spicy and eel sauces added the perfect amount of kick. The sesame seeds added a delightful crunch, making it a truly delectable dish.
The Godzilla roll was also exceptional. The combination of avocado, spicy tuna, albacore tuna, and crab salad was a perfect match. The spicy sauce, eel sauce, tobiko, green onion, sriracha, and sesame seeds added layers of flavor that kept me wanting more. And the best part? It wasn't too spicy!
The Calamari appetizer was a new addition to the menu, and I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise. The seasoning was a bit unusual, but once I dipped it into the spicy mayo, it was a perfect combination.
Overall, my experience at Gen Sushi was amazing. The prices were reasonable, the service was great, and the food was exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a delicious...
