Cape May Cafe is always a must go to location when we are visiting. Over the years, my family and I have dined here more than 30 times, and we are never disappointed. The sea food and all the claim bake fixings are always well prepared, and the buffet never runs out of anything for more than a couple of minutes. However, on this visit, the clam chowder was just too thick with potatos and very little clams. The clam chowder is one of my must haves when i dine here, but during this visit, i just could not eat the chowder, i was very disappointed, but the rest of the meal was great. The prime rib is fantastic, B.B.Q. Ribs are delicious and so tender. I recommend that on your first trip around the buffet, try little portions of the items that look interesting. Then, during your second trip through the buffet, load up on the items you liked and enjoy. A lot of guests forget to leave room for dessert, don't make this mistake, leave a little room for the goodies. Best of all are the servers. They really put forth an effort to go above and beyond to make your dining experience so much more enjoyable with that Disney touch. So be sure to tip your servers well, I do recommend a tip of 20% to 30% before any discounts. If you are on a dining plan that already includes a tip, still leave an additional 10% to 15% in cash. After dinner, don't be in a rush to leave, walk around, and check out the Beach Club and Yacht Club resorts. The Boardwalk resort is just across the lake as well. Stroll through the gardens and along the boardwalk. If you plan ahead, EPCOT is just around the corner. Finish the night off with the fireworks and show. You will not regret taking a slower pace and fully enjoying your evening.
Update: 11/26/24 So, here we are again, my wife and I, plus 3 guests this time. Once again, Cape May did not disappoint us in any way. As always, the food was fantastic, hot when it should be hot and cold when it should be cold. There was plenty to choose from, and when the serving trays were replaced with full trays way before the tray ran out. I usually do not have room for dessert, but tonight, I made sure to leave room. I tried 6 of the individual selections and discovered I am a BonBon fan. I did not go back for seconds, but during our next visit, I know exactly where I am heading.
Our server tonight was Jenn (pm), and she was fantastic. Not only does she have good server skills but a very good attitude, conversed with all of our group, and was a great host for the evening. All in all, you get what you pay for, and every penny we spent was well worth it.
I would like to make a couple of minor suggestions, and with over 30 years of experience attending this clam bake, I believe I am entitled. Maybe this is a step backwards, but I would really like to see more nautical motifs added to the restaurant. Fishing nets, net floats, crab traps, maybe clam shovels with buckets in the corners. Change up the background music (BGM) to the gentle sounds of the ocean and surf breaking. Maybe add in a whale singing or dolphins talking. Lastly, I must mention the clam chowder. As mentioned in my last couple of visits, the clam chowder needs some help. The celery is way undercooked, and there are too many potatoes. The chowder is very thick, almost to a paist thickness. Thin the chowder, remove about 1/2 of the potatos, cook the celery until tender, and for gosh sake, add more clams and more seafood flavorings.
As always, I want to mention, "Tip your servers well." Be nice, patient, and respectful to all the cast members as well as your fellow guests. Be part of the Magic that is Disney, you will have a...
Read moreHalf decent. Was expecting a far better variety of seafood options though. Been to seafood buffets in Pittsburgh with a much stronger assortment of options actually and that is saying something. If you are taking kids who are of ages that no longer qualify for the children's buffet pricing, maybe circle the buffet before ordering to make sure there are enough appealing options to them in order to make the price tag worth it. My 12-year-old who is very picky but loves seafood wasn't keen on the style of many of the options so simply picked at her plate and then upgraded to crab legs which are a separate fee as they are not included in the buffet. So paying over $75 alone for her to eat a fraction of a plate from the buffet and then admittedly tasty, but very skinny crab legs was kind of insane even for Disney pricing. I feel like Cape May should also have a vegetarian option in pricing as my wife is a vegetarian and simply ate some salad which she said was good but obviously not a $42 meal for her. My youngest who is 8 years old did qualify for the children's buffet and was excited that there were meatballs (as she is a meatball aficionado) but said they tasted worse than the meatballs at her school cafeteria so she passed on those. She did really enjoy the corn on the cob though, haha. I was excited about the paella but truthfully it was maybe a 6 out of 10 if I'm being nice, not nearly enough proteins included within the rice. The waitress was super nice though and the highlight of the meal. All in all, we visit Disney every year and I'm very used to (and okay with) paying well over $125 for a meal for a family of five at most Disney restaurants and rarely have ever left dissatisfied. But a $285 visit to Cape May Cafe with three members of my family who barely touched their plates is very difficult to justify. Like I said, circle the buffet when you get there (as I wish I had) for my kids/wife to decide if it will be...
Read moreWe had fond memories of eating here many many years ago, so we decided to go back on one of our resort days that we planned. We were staying at the Pop Century and we took the Skyliner over to Epcot/International gateway and walked to the Beach Club. We used the mobile check in, and were very quickly called to the host stand and seated. The host showed us around the buffet and where everything was. Our server came over to greet us very quickly and was friendly. He explained how the dinner works. There is one price for the buffet, or you can purchase the crab legs a la cart. The buffet had a decent selection. There were clams, mussels, hot shrimp, cold shrimp, salmon, roast beef slices, corn, potatoes, pasta salads, Caesar salad, southwest salad. They had clam chowder and vegetable soup. Both were decent. They also had some pizza and chicken tenders. We especially enjoyed the Ambrosia salad which was like a marshmallow and fruit salad. We also liked the clams dipped in melted butter. The dessert area had a really cute selection of little sample sizes. The chocolate bar and the cookies and cream bon bon stood out as highlights. Our server was attentive at refilling our drinks, clearing our plates, and seeing if we needed anything else. Overall we enjoyed our meal here as a family to reminisce about when we used to stay at the Beach club and eat there. It was nice to have a leisurely meal while checking out the other Epcot/Boardwalk area hotels. I would recommend this restaurant to those who especially like...
