Lighthouse Family Restaurant and Diner — Restaurant in Bayonne

I recently had a dissapointing experience ordering online from this restaurant’s website, which directed me to an app called “Simple Menu” to complete the transaction. I found their website and contact information on Google, so I assumed everything was legitimate. After placing and paying for my order (which I confirmed through my bank), I didn’t receive a confirmation number, even though I’d provided my email address.

When I called the restaurant to check on my order, a woman answered and told me she didn’t see the order but suggested I read the order to her and come pick it up. Upon arriving, however, the same woman acted as if she didn’t recognize my order or our conversation and claimed I had been scammed by Grubhub. I explained that I hadn’t used Grubhub and showed her proof of my purchase. She became increasingly aggressive and told me there was “nothing she could do.” A second employee joined her, and they both repeatedly interrupted me, making me feel unheard and ganged up on.

Eventually, a man came out from the back, asked what was going on, and insisted again that I’d been scammed through Grubhub—despite my explanation and proof that I’d ordered through their own website. To my shock, he then told the staff to call the cops on me, even though I had remained calm and just wanted help resolving the issue.

The lack of professionalism and empathy was disheartening. I came in ready to work things out and left feeling like a nuisance instead of a valued customer. I once again ordered from Lighthouse diner and had a relatively positive experience with a few things to consider, hence I am lowering their rate to 3/5.

Positive: Cheeseburger deluxe and fries are still good. They have really mastered their fries, always very good. Ordered through Grubhub for pickup and order was ready on time. There’s a small parking lot in the back if you get lucky.

What can be improved The attendants should be more courteous, welcoming and professional. When I go to pick up my order they are like “Name??” What about “Welcome to lighthouse, how can I help you? Thank you for your order sir, have a nice day”. I feel like I’m an uber driver annoying them but I’m actually ordering something for myself. They never include napkins or ketchup when ordering cheeseburger with fries. This should be automatic. Are they trying to save money?

I was craving the traditional diner style cheeseburger deluxe and this place did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. The burger was thick and juicy and the fries were also very good. They even included some pickles and coleslaw.

I placed my order via Grubhub (redirected from their website) showed up 15 minutes later and it was ready. The price was 13.99 plus tax which is reasonable. In my opinion both the burger and fries at this location were better than at Broadway diner.

Such a cute and neighborhoody diner. No frills, good food and prices and large portions. Waitress was very friendly and attentive even though it was busy.

The waffle was excellent, light and fluffy served with butter and syrup. I got bacon and 2 eggs with it too for $11. My friend got an omelet and loved it, she said it was packed with feta cheese. Also came with 2 pieces toast and jam and potatoes which was a lot of food. We both got hot chocolate and it was chocolatey and rich and delicious with whipped cream on top.

I will definitely come back again, the muffins, black and white cookies and cake looked divine and I would love to try those next time.
