As a chef and world traveler who has had the privilege of indulging in Europeâs finest pastries, I can confidently say that Herban Market is a revelation in our sleepy Southern hamlet. Emily, the genius behind the oven, crafts pastries that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the best patisseries in Paris, yet theyâre imbued with a warmth and soul thatâs distinctly Southern.
The crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e cube croissant is a marvel, a harmonious blend of crispy perfection and creamy decadence. The specialty cinnamon rolls are nothing short of a love affairâeach bite is an invitation to linger a little longer. Then thereâs the Earl Grey blueberry danish, a pastry so thoughtfully balanced in flavor and texture, it could easily become an obsession. And the twice-baked PB&J? Itâs pure, unadulterated comfort, reimagined with a level of finesse that only a true artisan could achieve.
Emilyâs mastery of technique, particularly her lamination, is something that any pastry chef in Europe would envy. Every layer is a testament to her dedication to the craft. The ingredients are premium and the flavors are natural and sublime, with hints of cardamom and caramel, frangipane, and beautiful Madagascar vanilla beans.
But itâs not just about the foodâthe atmosphere at Herban Market is like a warm embrace, with front of house staff Kelly and Grace adding a touch of warmth and charm to every visit. They make you feel as if youâre a cherished friend stopping by for a morning chat.
And letâs not forget the homemade dog treats! Even our furry companions are treated to something special here.
Herban Market isnât just a stopâitâs a destination, a place where culinary artistry, quality healthy ingredients, and Southern hospitality collide in the most beautiful way creating connection...

I say "experience" because the very, very good almond-milk cappuccino (balanced, smooth, low-acid, creamy, yummy) was enhanced by an unusually kind server, a welcoming owner, a lovely outdoor seating area, and almost perfectly prepared croissants (ham and cheese, chocolate). The vegan/vegetarian options are a level of quality that even non-vegans/vegetarians could happily order something they would enjoy. When I took a bite of my gluten-free ginger molasses cookie, my thought was not, "This is good for a gluten-free cookie," but, "This cookie is SO good!"
My 14-year-old daughter really liked her mocha, commented on the kindness of the guy who took our order, and noted that the playlist coming quietly through the speakers was an enjoyable part of the overall ambiance of the cafe.
The only downside is that Herban Market and Cafe is located in Beaufort rather than walking distance from our house in Northern VA! :-)
Thank you for such a gift of a place, people, and...

First review: I was very excited to find this place as I am on a pretty strict vegan diet and really needed my recommended daily shake for breakfast. I was disappointed I was only getting a shake as it looked like their food was amazing. I hope that next time I come to town I can try a meal here. All that being said they were very accommodating to work with me as I told them what types of things I needed to have in my shake. They were great at explaining what was there and how I could customize the shake for myself. The shake turned out to be amazing. I wish I could bring this restaurant home with me it was so good. I also got a cup of coffee that was delicious too. I will definitely return on...
