Went here this past weekend and had a less than satisfactory experience for as much as it cost.
I excitedly ordered the snow crab seafood boil, because I love seafood boil. My wife ordered steamed snow crab. We snacked on delicious bread while we waited for food. The lobster bisque appetizer was good, although nothing to write home about and lacking in lobster.
Then it was downhill.
My seafood boil was served on an unwieldy, elevated platter and swimming in Cajun sauce that became an absolute disaster. The crab was not cooked well - the shells were difficult to crack, splashing Cajun sauce on my clothes. The platter was too big to eat from without making a mess, let alone feel apart of the dinner conversation. I had nowhere to put my empty crab leg shells, probably because the table was too small for the large dish I had. The waitress apologetically took my food back and put it on a regular plate. Maybe this dish isn’t meant for one person? Would’ve been nice to know ahead of time. There were maybe 4 or 5 tiny slices of sausage, which is, in my opinion, the thing I look forward to most in seafood boil (other than the seafood, of course). The overall experience of the seafood boil ruined much of the dinner.
My wife’s steamed snow crab was served luke-warm/cold and was also difficult to crack. When we reheated leftovers the next day, her comment was “this is good crab now that it’s actually hot.”
The final nail in the coffin was desserts. The crème brûlée was served warm and the top was over done. My wife had trouble eating it because it tasted burnt. I had some kind of bourbon(?) cake that I forget the name of. It was good but a little dry.
Overall, I don’t think we’ll be back. We’re plenty satisfied with Bonefish Grill to get our seafood kick, even if it is a bigger chain restuarant - without the stained clothes and awkward...
Read moreBeing understaffed is in no way our waiters fault. The restaurant as a whole, should be run better. We went for my bday dinner and I couldn't have been more displeased. There was a 30 min wait for a table, so we waited at the bar. Thats ok, places get busy. We get seated and we wait for probably 20 mins before a server even comes up to our table. Fine, maybe they got a little behind. But then we place appetizers and 2 drinks. Takes over 30 mins for both to come out. Slightly irritated because now its been almost an hour and we've just recieved apps. We didn't get bread or even water refills, and it was only my fiance and me at our table. We notice everyone else is being served quickly, while its been over an hour with empty waters, no bread, and only apps. Then we wait another 30-40 mins and our waiter returns and asks if we'd like another drink and our entrees will be out soon. My fiance gets one more drink. And we wait another 30 mins. Now its been over 2 hours and we still don't have water refills, no bread, or even service at this point. We finally mention something when our waiter finally comes over and he apologizes and comes back maybe 10 mins later and refills our waters, and says the bill will be docked. (We didn't want the bill docked btw, just much better service) and when my finances food comes out, it just wasn't very good. We return it to the kitchen and just ask for another drink, which we end up canceling because another 10-15 minutes go by and no drink. So we ask for the check and still had a to pay $120+ even after a "30% dock". We request the manager to come out and he LITERALLY REFUSES. Absolutely embarrassing way to run a restaurant and the manager should ashamed. The manager over worked our server (he'd been there for almost 12+hrs with little to no help, due to poor...
Read moreEdit: Changing my rating for this restaurant. Shortly after my previous post (below), Club Oceano reached out and made things right for us. Oscar was extremely diligent, knowledgeable, helpful, and patient in helping us created a menu for our rehearsal dinner. We stayed for lunch to try out the food and I was blown away by the experience. Fresh seafood is hard to find in the Dayton area, but Club Oceano hits the mark 100%. In speaking with Oscar and Sam, you can see a true passion not only for the food but also for the dining experience. This passion is reflected in every aspect of the customer experience, from start to finish. Incredibly talented staff (from owners to chef to wait staff), perfectly cooked fresh, upscale food, amazing atmosphere, beautiful restaurant. This place has become one of our favorites and will be our go-to not only for celebrations and special occasions but also any time we’re hankering for some creative dishes and fresh seafood!
Previous post: Disappointed in our experience with service here. We stopped in to inquire about hosting our rehearsal dinner in their private room and met with one of the general managers who told us to email to schedule a time to sit down with the chef. Email sent, no response after 2 weeks. We called and left a message for the manager in case we got the email address wrong. No response. Called again to check in, spoke to a different manager who said they would take control of this event and would email us information. That was over 1.5 weeks ago. Still nothing. The atmosphere looked lovely, but I'm extremely disappointed that they were not able to prioritize our inquiry. To me, this raises questions about their overall service capacity for events and big parties and how much they value...
