This wasn't the best first impression we could've had. I had really high hopes coming here tonight. It's really clean inside and a really homey feel to it. There were sounds of a busy kitchen and the scent of sesame oil was all throughout.
The lady running the register, taking orders and serving was very welcoming. This confused me a bit because the overall service was not very good.
We were seated immediately, as the place was about half full of patrons. The food seemed to take a bit long to come out, but we figured they might've been shortstaffed tonight. When everything finally arrived, it came all at once, which was really nice.
We ordered the pork neck stew, seafood noodle soup and a seafood pancake. I would return for the pancake alone. It was crispy and thick with seafood bits here and there. The char on it added an excellent, smoky flavor. The pork neck soup was on par with other nearby eateries. It was very good, but not really piping hot when it came to our table. The seafood soup was not all that good. We thought the broth was very light on flavor. I thought it was light, but tasty. It was my fiancée's order and she thought it was bland. The noodles were gummy and I pulled out some hunks of clumped noodles that were not palatable.
Probably the worst part of our experience, and what earned them only 3 stars this night were the little missteps. First, they forgot my fiancée ordered a Coke. We had to remind them twice that we ordered a Coke. A Pepsi was delivered. Not really a big deal. We are not too particular on brand of cola. But then throughout the dinner, we could not get their attention to get more water. We were even asked twice if there's anything else we wanted and when we said, "water please," we were given a friendly nod and smile, but the waters never came. By the end of our visit, 2 tables of 5-6 people were seated around us. 2 more opportunites to serve us our waters but they never came. We just decided it was time to pay...
Read moreI’ve only been twice but it remains my boyfriend and I’s favorite Korean restaurant in the portland area. The service is always fantastic and the food comes out very fast. They’re very clean, the bathroom is private and a little tight and dated but never unclean feeling. Such a full variety of options to choose from, all the staples and some more unique options. Their stews and soups are PACKED with proteins and toppings. Their bibimbap is classic and cozy with great sauce. They always bring out many well seasoned and flavorful sides, great kimchi, Mac salad, bean sprouts, fish cake and the like. Their seafood green onion pancake is our favorite. Portion sizes are awesome too, we eat a lot and two dishes is more than enough food for two people so we usually just share since they always bring out plates to serve on like a family style restaurant. My one complaint is literally just their tables and chairs. I’m 5’9” with a long torso, the chairs are hard and uncomfortable and the tables sit very low so I always find myself squirming in discomfort. The staff are so amazing I’m sure if I mentioned anything about it to them they would prop the table up and bring me a cushion or something lol though I never would want to make a fuss. The only other comment I have is that if you like sodium bring your own haha. They don’t provide soy sauce or salt at the table unless of course you ask I’m sure. We...
Read moreThe restaurant is pretty small with limited seating and while dining I’ve seen them turn away multiple parties. They’re severely understaffed with two ladies running the orders, waiting on tables, clearing tables, and doing take out orders. When dining in, they will only stop by to bring you menu, take orders, bring food, and bring the check.
I’ve been really spoiled with good Korean food in NYC, and unfortunately Koreana could not compare. We came as a party of 4 and each got one of the combo sets and the seafood pancake to share. Pancake was probably the best thing we ordered that meal with crispy edges and decent amount of seafood. I got a combo of bibim nangmyeon (spicy cold noodles - sauce was more sweet than spicy) and LA galbi.. but the galbi never came. Given the slow service we had all meal and I was pretty full from what we did get already, I was fine if they didn’t put the order in.
But of course it came up on the receipt, and after bringing it up to one of the servers she came back with a handwritten receipt… still with the same calculations including the galbi. After we pointed it out again, they finally came back with the corrected check.
Wouldn’t recommend dining in - prices are high, service is non-existent, food was mediocre. Maybe if you had a Korean food craving, Koreana comes to mind, stick with ordering...
