I visited this location today to get some donuts, but I had an extremely unpleasant experience. A person who introduced himself as the manager presented a new employee who, he explained, was in training and would assist me with my order.
While ordering several donuts, I asked the employee, “Could you tell me the difference between the Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled Doughnut and the Chocolate Iced Custard Filled Doughnut?", but he ignored my question and continued placing donuts into the box.
Thinking that he might not have understood me because of my accent—I am Asian—I asked again: “Well, I would like to know the difference between these two.” Yet again, the employee completely ignored me, smirked, and said only, “Anything else?” while continuing to pack the donuts.
Each time I spoke, he kept making eye contact with the manager and giggling. At one point, he couldn’t stop laughing and walked away from the counter mid-order.
The manager stepped in, removed the incorrect donut, and helped me finish my order. The entire experience made me feel ignored and mocked. It was deeply unpleasant and humiliating, and I still can’t believe this actually happened.
I have been living in Portland as an international student for nearly two years, and everyone I’ve met until now has been warm and kind. I’ve always proudly told my family and friends how respectful and friendly people are here, and I’ve been genuinely grateful for the wonderful community I’ve been part of.
But today, for the first time since coming to the U.S., I experienced what felt like racial discrimination. I am both shocked and disheartened by what happened.
This upsetting incident will not change the way I feel about the kind and welcoming people I’ve encountered here overall, but to avoid ever having such a negative experience again, I will not be returning to...
Read moreI have been to this Krispy Kreme locations a couple times in the past and I have decided to visit it more often as I have changed my diet to incorporate cheat days. And my experience with this specific location for the past few weeks has not been pleasant. Beginning with the employees, they always seem so out of it. Not like dozing off or anything like that, but more like being a clutz. Like, there was this one time I asked them a certain dietary question about their donuts when it was my turn in line to make my order, and the employee behind the counter looked at me like I had asked them a bizarre question and instead ignored my question and made quick hand gestures in motions of "Get on with it and choose your donuts." And there were other times where when I went up to the cash register to pay, they would never ask me anything else like if I wanted a drink or even ask if I had a rewards membership with them (I have missed out on a lot of freebies and rewards redemptions because of this). Enough of my complaints. There are some solutions to these problematic problems I experience in my visits. Number one would be to train all your employees to have a higher quality of customer terms interaction and communication. Number two would be to have a more competent manager in charge that can actually handle complex customer situations rather than ignoring them. Number three could be having more employees on deck? Because often times, it is always understaffed and everyone behind the counter always seems to be rushing to make orders. It all seems so inefficient in my eyes. That all being said, I won't be coming here anymore for my weekly cheat days and will be going somewhere else for my...
Read moreThere are a few precious moments in life when great things come together in a blinding flash of glorious pastry goodness and this morning was one of those moments. I was scrolling through my morning dose of cute dog and cat videos on Facebook when an ad came across my feed for Krispy Kreme doughnuts introducing their Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Krispy Kreme doughnuts and like a crack of lightning from the heavens my taste buds came alive, yearning for the sweet, fluffy, krispy love shell of doughnut rapture filled with the creamy delight of Reese's Peanut Butter cups!
My fingers trembled as I tried to find the nearest Krispy Kreme on Google Maps! Success! 27 minutes away! I ran out the door with one sandal on, my hair a mess, and didn't realize until I was half way there that I still had my PJ pants on, but no matter, I was a man on a mission!
I pulled up to the order board and a friendly voice said "Welcome to Krispy Kr.." and in my excitement I cut them off and blurted out some nonsensical combination of words that involved doughnuts and chocolate peanut butter heaven please. "umm? excuse me?" said the voice. I took a deep breath and calmed asked for every Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Doughnut in existence at this location.
Several hours later....
When awoke from my sugar induced coma, I found myself on the couch, covered in doughnut crumbs, sticky with Reese's flavored nectar. Empty Krispy Kreme boxes were strewn all about the room and my dog wearily lifting its head and regarding me with a look that was a cross between "Good, hes not dead" and "Dang, you have a serious problem".
So for my review, id say yeah...ill be back. Probably...
