[ My honest experience with this restaurant] Sep 3rd 2025, ordered around 5pm.
I drove all the way to the store as I wanted to experience the whole process, as this is my first time try the food at this location.
Right from the start - bad service, no smily no hi hello, nothing. All just staring. All good! Once my order finished, the lady in the front was giving me 2 cups of thai milk tea and a thin paper bag for 2 orders with soup, with no handle. I asked if they had some kind of bag or drink container for the drinks and the lady was just straight up say no. Thought to myself, weird - you’re selling drinks, soups but no nothing to keep them. And what’s up with the attitude - thought maybe i forgot to tip but pretty sure I did.
Not think much rather than a bit unhappy (cause im small and had to carry a lot), i drove home. When taking the orders out of my car - holy moly my car was soaking with the soup inside the paper bag and on the front seat. At this point the bag was pretty bad, it ripped and my food fell out. Here we go to no more food.
Disappointed in the packaging, I called the restaurant. Pretty sure the lady that was helped me in the front picked up the phone, I explained the situation and she said no, can’t redo anything. They said its not their faults that the soup spilled, bag ripped and food felt. The only thing they can do is giving me the soup - but I have to drive all the way back. Oh and here’s what the lady said ‘We packed it good, if it’s spilled, well i won’t and can’t but if it did then I can give you only the soup. Oh, you won’t come back for the soup? Well guess what, if it’s a whole order redo you would come back right? Oh so that’s why, we can only do soup’ 😡🤬
The way the lady treated me was rude, I bought the food with my own money, even tipped them for a take out order and now wasted a whole bag of food just because their packaging was bad?
To be honest, the whole situation could have been different if they did a better job in securing the soup or having it in different bag.
Perhaps this is just a bad experience for me but honestly I don’t know how it could be better with the service I was getting. Go to Nong Khai Man Gao or somewhere else.

Read moreI can’t overstate how important chicken rice is in Asian foodie culture, so I was extremely excited to try it here. And I was not disappointed! The rice — arguably the most important part of the dish — is fragrant and delicious without being too oily.
The ‘white’ chicken is juicy and flavorful, and the crackle of the Hat Yai fried chicken skin is divine. Tastes amazing too. The Larb popcorn chicken is also so tender and juicy, and I’m loving the citrus-y flavors in the crunchy coating. Would be so great with a crisp, dry beer. Servings are very generous too! I’m a pretty big eater but I still had to give the husband about a third of my rice and chicken.
The sauces are a modern take on the traditional garlic chili, dark sauce and minced ginger sauces normally used in more traditional presentations, and I like how the sauces are interpreted for modern/western tastes.
Finally, the soup! A sip took me all the way back to being a kid having lunch after school in that hot, humid tropical climate all over again.
There is only one gripe that I’m not taking stars off for: the utensils! They’re too tiny and flimsy to be used comfortably, but that’s definitely not enough to keep me away from Rooster &...
Read moreoverall, this restaurant is great, and the neighborhood is so blessed to have them! since they opened, i’ve picked up food here at least once a week for a quick, healthier dinner. i stick to the Khao Man Gai, specifically the pearl. my partner has sampled several dishes, his favorite being the Hot Yai Wings. i’ve found flavor and quality to be pretty consistent. it’s nice to have this option so we don’t have to go all the way to the well-known spot in Portland for Khao Man Gai.
the only issue i’ve consistently noticed is the customer service. there is only one person behind the counter that manages the register, taking call-in orders, and handing out pick-up orders. since they are usually busy and someone almost always takes 10 mins ordering or takes 10 mins to deal with a problem with an order, this keeps the one person working the counter tied up from handing out pick-up orders… so i’m standing around waiting for food that’s ready and getting cold. i hope they find a better way to manage the situation soon.
all that said, if you order Khao Man Gai, don’t forget to add crispy...
