Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Bedford

Worst service ever! First I want to say that Steak-N-Shake was our favorite restaurant we always went there, but today ruined it and we won't be going back for a long time.We arrived around 5:15 pm asked for a booth and they were so crowded we waited 15-20 min for a booth which was not too bad. But then we ordered shakes and our meal and 40 minutes later we were still waiting on shakes so we asked "how much longer?' because we had been seeing others receive food, eat, and leave that came in after us and we had not even got our shakes yet. The waitress went to check on the shakes, came back and said they were being made. Finally after a while we received our shakes and we waited and waited and about 6:40 we asked the waitress about our food, she then went to check on it, then we heard the kitchen tell our waitress "what order?" It seems it had not even been ordered and then we waited another 25 minutes and finally our food came and then....it wasn't even right and to top that off the waitress was like well I can get some sides and you can put them on your sandwich yourself, I thought to myself "if I have to make my own food then why am I paying your restaurant to do it"?. The dressed sandwich without mayo wasn't even dressed and the other sandwich was plain and was supposed to be partly dressed. Sooooo at 7:10 we went up to pay for the shakes and they wanted to charge for the meal, I said no we haven't even ate yet!! Then the manager came and was like oh your the ones that had mayo by accident.....my son spoke up and said NO we were the ones that didn't even get food and then when it came it was all wrong. By this time people were looking to see what was wrong and the manager said just forget the shakes it is on the house, I tried to insist paying, I even had the money out to give her but she refused. All in all it was just terrible terrible service tonight and I really do not understand why they could not get our order right and served in a timely manor. So we left and went to McDonald's got food and went...

EDIT June 2024: i’m not sure what happened to this location in the past few years, but every time I come in here for the last three times, the most bitter people behind the counter. People who clearly can’t handle interacting with customers. I watched person after person as I ate my mediocre burger be treated as if they didn’t even exist. People saying thank you, and no response from staff. I will say they get an A+ for having that Midwestern Karen look on their faces every time somebody walks in. Must be part of the local training process.

I probably wouldn’t even bother with the review if it was just my party. But watching person after person be completely dismissed or treated as if their presence is somehow bothersome by the staff… come on.

I guess Burger King next time??

As always, blame goes straight to management and whoever else is holding their leash.

Wouldn't gave even a star, but that was the only way I could give a review. The food is tasty & the restaurants is clean. What is sorely lacking is competent employees. If your staff taking window orders can't take a simple order, such as 2 singles, no cheese with lettuce, tomato & onion...then we have a problem. Why should I be happy to receive a credit? We don't have our dinner. Why should I spend extra money in gas to drive back to your restaurant so you can "make it right". You insult me with that attitude. Train your staff, take responsibility for your mistakes and spend your dollars & time delivering my corrected order to my door! Maybe I didn't spend twenty bucks, but I've spent the last dollar there that you'll ever get from me. Funny, I knew the man who started Steak & Shake & built the business up in Indianapolis, IN. Those restaurants were successful for many, many years, but now have closed. Your restaurant will probably suffer the same fate. Bedford's a much smaller community and people won't pay for poor,...
