This is the correspondence between Bel Air Bakery and myself regarding a recent and unfortunate purchase:
"I ordered a smash cake from you for my daughters first birthday party which was this past Saturday and I have to say that I am beyond disappointed in how it turned out. My request was simple enough, I asked for an oversized cupcake- that was it!!! The only thing specific that I requested was that the icing look "cute". I wanted it very simple. When ordering the cake, the girl even asked me if I wanted something on top and I said NO. However, what showed up when my cousin brought it (had I picked it up myself I would NOT have accepted it), resembled nothing less than a giant PENIS coming out of the cake. If this were a bachelorette party, it would have been perfect, but it wasn't! It was a LITTLE GIRLS FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! To say that I was disappointed is a VAST understatement. Everyone thought that I made the cake myself because of how bad & unprofessional it looked. There wasn't a single person there who DIDN'T think that it looked like a penis. I am seriously surprised that a professional bakery would not have seen what this was, and the thought that maybe someone there DID think that it looked inappropriate and STILL sent it out the door is very unfortunate. I will never get another cake from you again, and although it wasn't my intent, as people were asking me where I got it, they said they too would never buy from you."
Here is her response and please note that I live 30 minutes away and I received the cake DURING the party - NOT before: "if you would have returned it on Saturday we could have redone it for you to your liking, but there's nothing we can do 2 days after the fact, and you already said you're never coming back anyway."
I can forgive the cake - but not the "I'm better than you" attitude. My husband is a small business owner and we would NEVER speak to a client like this. Regardless of circumstances. You lost a lot of business,...
Read moreNewberry Cafe consistently forgets entire items from orders. Without fail, every order they are now forgetting entire items and the quality has definitely declined over the past few months. Often donuts will be poorly packaged in a bag, top down, ontop of hot food containers so the entire tops of the donuts then melt off onto the paper bag. The orders where they are forgetting entire items also aren't large. For example, out of 5 items ordered; two breakfast sandwich combos, two donuts, and a coffee, the order will arrive with an entire combo missing. This has been happening so consistently the past few months. The Cafe started off well and was one of our favorite small cafes to order from; however, after getting so many orders completely messed up recently I think I need to stick to the "this is the last time I order from them." Not sure what has happened to cause such a drastic decline. Seems as if they have tried to expand too quickly without the appropriate amount and appropriately...
Read moreNewberry Bakery is a top contender if you are looking for delicious, fresh baked goods. I was given a gift card by a coworker, and this is the first time I've visited the bakery.
Staff was fantastic - friendly, helpful, and efficient. The shop was busy, but I was in and out in under 5 minutes once I had made my item choices, even though I added a last-minute item to my order.
The atmosphere was modern and inviting. This is a smaller shop front in a strip, and they have indoor seating, but it doesn't feel cramped, and carryout customers are able to get in and out without impacting diners. There is plenty of parking available both on the street and in nearby lots.
Now for the food... everything we selected was fresh and delicious. We chose a few donuts, a cronut, a mini cake, one of the shop's homemade pop tarts, and a bag of dog treats from another independently owned business. 10/10 some of the best we've ever had, and the dogs love their treats!
We will...
