First of all, I want to say that the lobster was good. But the rest left me speechless. We are not from the area. The menu was very confusing, with seemingly different prices for the same items. It also didn't make a lot of sense to me why the lobster "dinner" would cost so much more than just a lobster. When I ordered, I asked for a small lobster, steamed. When it's time to pay, it was obvious that they were charging me for a dinner. I told them, no dinner, just lobster. They tried to tell me the only difference is the dinner has a small bag of chips. I insisted, no thanks, I just want lobster. They reluctantly took away the chips, and adjusted my bill. Came out $7 CHEAPER. Yes, that was $7 for the small bag of chips. I also ordered some mussels, fish sandwich, and a piece of pie. All came out right under $40. Sat down, and realized I need some water. Came back to the counter and asked for a water cup, they told me it's $2 for the cup. I hand them my debit card again. Told that it has to be at least $10 order for me to use the card. But I just ordered almost $40. They said no-go, $10 minimum. I told them I do not have cash and kindly asked if they could just give me a cup. They said they'll check with the manager. Manager's response: Go a few miles up, there's an ATM. SERIOUSLY?? So I have all this food that just got served and you want me to drive to an ATM so i can give you $2 for some WATER?? Am I supposed to carry all the freshly made food served on styrofoam plates in the car so I can get $2 from an ATM so I can have some water? This can't possibly be their standard customer service, right? With that being said, maybe if you are white, you will get better...
Read moreDumpster Fire by the Sea The only thing young is the name. Eating at Young's Lobster Pound is like eating in a Mexican Cantina in a border town. There is always some shady stuff in the back room. That is the same back room where they get the lobsters we were served, floating upside down on the top of the tank. The lobster up front are just for show to impress all the tourists that eat there. Whatever you do, don't order the "lobster roll." You get a stale slice of wonder bread folded in half, drenched in mayonnaise with a yellow crust on top, and a few chunks of mystery meat, which I hope was chicken. The clams have a nice crunch to them. They are very hard on the way down and even harder on the way out. Then there's the "butter," which I know was not margarine. I could not feel the roof of my mouth for a week after. When I dunked my overripe lobster into the lard, I had a tug-a-war to get it out. Once they opened the boiler where they cook the lobster, it smelled like the laundry hamper at the homeless shelter (I volunteered). The tanks where they store the lobster have not been cleaned in years. The location and views are excellent. Make sure you enjoy that before you eat. You have a 30-minute window after you finish eating to find a comfortable toilet. Your phone needs to be fully charged. In our case, we had four people and only three bathrooms. Steel toe boots are strongly recommended at the restaurant. Do not wear open-toe shoes. The rats/mice nibble at your feet. I can only conclude by saying this: One of the employees told me to "Do myself a favor and get a meal a couple miles...
Read moreNovember in Maine: literally all lobster pounds are closed.....except this wonderful place that never do such thing as "closed for the season". I wanted to try Maine lobster for the first time during my travel in bar harbor but I could not find any lobster pounds open and the only food I could get for breakfast and lunch were sandwiches that taste nothing special compared to chain restaurants or even worse than those I make at home. I happened to find Young's Lobster Pound on search as I was desperately looking for a lobster places for dinner. I gave it a try and it turned out to be wonderful. I could not try their cooked lobster meal unfortunately because I got there really at the last minute and they stop cooking 30 minutes before they close. Instead, I got a live lobster. The staffs there asked whether I had any experience in cooking lobster before and I said no. Then, they gave me all the tips how to boil lobster properly and make it tasty. I got home and cooked as they told me and it turned out to be wonderful. Very kind and friendly staffs, good price, wonderful lobsters, and stays open in all season. What could be better than that? It is an hour from Bar Harbor but if anyone passes Belfest by on your way home and want a lobster, then definitely try this place. I am planning on visiting this place again with my friend or even by myself to try their cooked meal in two more weeks of my...
