IF YOU ARE A BLACK PERSON OR AN AFRO LATINO DONâT COME HERE!!! I went a while back wanting to support a Cuban business considering there arenât many Cuban restaurants/businesses in the LA area (if any in California at all ) and the service and treatment I got was horrible. I was purposely avoided a few times by someone who I assumed at first was an employee(later found out it was one of the owners). While having a conversation in Spanish with a female employee she proceed to tell me in my face that Iâm not Cuban and insinuates it due to the color of my skin. This is after I proceeded to tell her where in Cuba my family specifically come from. She further believed I wasnât Cuban because I wanted to buy a Puerto Rican flag that THIS business was selling for some family friends in area and thought that I didnât known what the Cuban flag looked like. Furthermore this employee tried correct me on how to pronounce Cuban dishes which I took offense to given I grew up eating some of these dishes all my life. When I then proceed to ask this employee by any chance if she is cuban (since she seem to know so much about the culture that I come from) ,she then has a disgusted look on her face and responds ânoâ that sheâs Mexican and is from Mexico( as if being Cuban is a horrible thing). Finally the owner who was avoiding me the entire time comes out, starts to whisper with the employee, looking at me at me and starts to laugh. And when I try to start a friendly conversation with this said owner in Spanish asking questions like â when did you guys open this restaurant.â Or âwhere in Cuba are from.â She avoids answering my questions and gives what I can only describe as â the death stareâ. All this to say that donât support this business Iâve other reviews say that they treat some of their customers like second class citizens. After my encounter with the manager I wouldnât be surprised at all. They shouldnât be open for business if treat people like that. And food that I purchased from here wasnât even really good my mom and Abuela couldâve made ten times better in...
Read moreThe restaurant part is OK. Not a big deal. But the groceries part is a nightmare. This people have a terrible quality control problem. I don't understand how is it that the health department hasn't interviene in this store. They have all kinds of old expired expired items on the shelves, if not just about to expire. A lot of items don't even have expiration dates on them. Be very aware especially with the frozen items (croquetas, yuca, frozen fruit pulps.) That whole freezer is a mess.
Most of the items on the shelves don't have the prices on them. And if there is a price, more than likely is the wrong price. Literally you don't know how much you are putting in your cart. Unless you get the poor worker there to scan an item at a time everytime you pick something of the shelves. She is very nice. I found this to be very unnerving because it's shear laziness, if not flat out shadiness on the owners part.
Most of the items are overpriced. I would say check other latino markets like Superior or Northgate. They have the Maltas, Matervas, e Ironbeers at much more...
