Came all the way to the city of Bell for tacos from a place called El Jefe, expecting the boss of tacos. What I got instead was a joke that wasn’t even funny.
They told me four tacos were $10.50. Then I look over and see $11.50 punched in. I asked about it and they hit me with some back-of-the-napkin logic that made zero sense. They just started tapping the top of the machine, showing 50 cents like that explained anything. Not sure if they were just dyslexic or trying to gaslight me, but the math was made up. If they needed a dollar that bad, fine, take it — just don’t act like you earned it.
The place looks like it used to mean something. Maybe it had history, maybe the owners switched, but now it’s just sad. The meat looked low quality, the tacos were slapped together like someone was in a rush to quit, and the salsa bar looked like a crime scene. I’ve had better tacos from street vendors in gentrified neighborhoods. Do better.
This place is not El Jefe. It’s more like El Intern on his last warning. Save yourself...
Read moreThe food is delicious! I love the drinks like pineapple! I like Mexican food because of my culture, but I believe that this place is excellent for a quick bite. They are not slow making the food. The food is tasty and very homemade. The refried beans have an excellent flavor! The sopes and burritos are excellent and delicious! They fill the food was enough sour cream and sauce and lettuce! They are not stingy the way they make their food. The only thing is that when you order online or through an Uber Eats or Postmates, make sure you get all your items because they can miss something. I've told them before no ice and I got ice, and I ordered a flan yesterday and I didn't even get that oh, and they are not inexpensive for the portion you get. The burritos are nice and fat....
Read moreTacos Mexico no more! Now, "Tacos El Jefe" The new name bothers me, because if the new owner really believes his taco joint is boss, he should've started by giving the place a complete new look, then most importantly he should've made sure that the food is good! Which I being a taco connoisseur can attest that it's not. No sports on the big screen TV's, no music coming out of the jukebox. As a matter of fact, the jukebox is now unplugged. And the prices are now out of my budget! I was charged $26 and change for 2 burritos to go! I used to get 2 burritos, 4 tacos, and an agua de horchata for about the same amount. I'm gonna give it another shot in a few months, hoping for improvement? But, based on my last time there... I would skip "Tacos El Jefe" for...
