First start off there were no customers around the time I came in 2:30PM Sunday 05/26/24 two staff members were sitting down relaxing ( no problem) the food was on the line none of which was hot they had a few green beans floating in water pan of Mac and cheese , pan of beans I purchased two sandwiches 1 chopped beef 1 sliced beef , the lady pulled the bread from something that looked like a deep freezer they are using to store the bread so the bread seemed old it was smashed down she didn't toasted it or warm it up , so the brisket was sitting on the top of steam table uncovered so that made the meat just room temperature the sliced beef was mostly fat so when I got home I discarded the bread and just ate the meat by itself. I will say that the two staff members gave off "married couple maybe semi retired the gentleman was polite. I think maybe this isn't a busy location the coolers were only half filled with bottled soda a lot of old equipment not very inviting but again they were very pleasant what made me go inside was the smell on the outside but when I went inside I was turned off but for the kindness they showed I ordered the two sandwiches but I won't be returning I wish...
Read moreI’ve been passing by this place for about 5+ years now, and today I was driving past it during lunch and thought I would pop in and give it a try. Being almost noon, I should have recognized there was no one in line at what is typically a very busy time for good BBQ joints.
I got the two meat plate with two sides – brisket, jalapeno sausage, pinto beans, and slaw. The brisket had no flavor and was tough – no hint of smoke for a place with “hickory” in their name and no bark: it was as if someone got some brisket and popped it in an oven for a while. The jalapeno sausage was fairly low quality, and you could seriously go to the grocery store and buy any sausage link and cook up something better on your backyard grill. The beans had a good flavor but the slaw was fairly bland.
I did get some BBQ sauce on the side and tried to use it to at least give some flavor to the meats but it had a strange taste, also – it seemed to be heavy with sage spices with a little bit of oregano.
There are way too many good to outstanding – and even “okay” tasting – BBQ places in the Houston area. I would give this place a pass and go...
Read moreSo, I recently tried out this barbecue spot that's been getting mixed reviews. As a native Texan, I have my barbecue standards, but I wanted to give it a fair shot.
Walking in, you head up to the counter to place your order. There's a tip jar, just in case you're feeling generous. I opted for a combo plate with two meats, two sides, and some bread, which came out to $16.89. The portions were definitely generous, making it a good deal in my book.
Now, let's get to the meaty details. The brisket was a bit on the dry side, but a little BBQ sauce helped salvage it. The sausages were tasty but slightly overcooked. On the side front, the potato salad was a winner, while the cole slaw didn't quite hit the mark.
In conclusion, this place offers decent and affordable barbecue. It might not be the best you've ever had, but it's certainly not bad either. If you happen to be passing through Bellaire and want a satisfactory BBQ fix, it's...
