Dad and I were taking grandpa out for breakfast and wanted something close to his part of town. This was a quick and easy drive from Ft. Thomas and we had no problem finding free street parking at around 9a on a Monday morning. Also, we practically had the place to ourselves - one man came in after us and that was it.
Our waitress was friendly, but probably a little laid back. She could've been just a tad more attentive and probably should've double-checked our order as she got my dad's wrong.
Grandpa went with the goetta grilled cheese with a side of the sweet potatoes and squash hash. He must've enjoyed it, because he cleared his plate.
Dad and I always order two different things and then share. He ordered the Hawaiian Bake (ham, Swiss, over-medium egg and pineapple in a bed of potatoes) with added bacon. But somehow our waitress got confused and brought out the Fette Sau Bake (ham, bacon, sausage, over-medium egg and cheese over potatoes). When we finally saw her again and mentioned the mix-up, she simply offered to bring out a plate of pineapple....I thought it was strange that she didn't offer to simply bring out the right dish. But luckily for us, the Fette Sau was pretty delicious, so we just kept things the way they were.
I ordered the Bellevue Bake (goetta, over-medium egg and double cheese) and I requested the sweet potato hash instead of the regular breakfast potatoes. I didn't think the goetta was very flavorful, so I was happy to have all the cheese and sweet potatoes.
All in all, while I have no reason to rush back, I think this place provides some pretty solid grub and a cozy,...
Read moreTravelling through Kentucky, I really wanted a "hot brown". This restaurant came up on a Google search, so we mapped it and was on our way. I knew from the description that it wasn't going to be a traditional hot brown, but this was the easiest place to get to. First the restaurant. Its very small and seating is very close together. I didn't count, but if it seats more than 20 people, I would be surprised. We had approximately a 15-20 minute wait, simply because there isn't much room. After getting a table and looking at the menu, the hot brown I had read about on the web wasn't even on the menu, but there were 2 others, neither being traditional. Long story short, the one I ordered was a brunch version (see photo) with turkey, bacon, eggs, cheese sauce served over biscuits. (It was supposed to also have crab, but upon ordering, the waitress said they were out of crab.) Although not traditional, it was excellent!! The smoked turkey combined with the bacon just gave this dish a great flavor. I don't remember the name of the waitress, but she was very friendly and even took a couple of dollars off the price due to being out of crab. Based on this one experience, I would highly...
Read moreSwung in to place a Togo order probably during peak brunch hour. BB has apparently been affected by staffing issues (like everywhere else) so there was only one waitress working the entire front of the house. Her name was Mikayla, and she was absolutely fantastic. She was communicative to the customers, professional, and seemed to care about everyoneâs brunch experience despite being short staffed and having they card/ticketing system go down on her. I got to sit there and watch for quite sometime and was impressed with how she was handling each situation and each individual customers request. I saw no unhappy faces despite the unfortunate wait times. I loved her attitude and how much she cared about doing a good job. Everyplace needs people like Mikayla.
When I finally got my food home it was cooked to perfection so whoever was working the kitchen was amazing as well. My wife and I have always loved the food here but my experience today felt like the workers here needed a shout out for doing such an...
