We've lived in Bellevue since 2006. This was my 4th time visiting this sports bar/Café. After receiving my food, I suddenly remembered why I hadn't patronized this business more often! I received a very large portion of food. I rather would've desired a much smaller portion that actually tasted good. Even though I had a massive amount of food left over, (the amount of leftovers was more than normal because the food really did taste terrible!) I did not ask for a container for leftovers, as I didn't have any intention nor interest in taking them home. The food was very bland. It reminded me of food not in a hospital but rather a nursing home. (I'm a nurse, and up until recently, I usually had a small side-job in a nursing home. I only say this to give the reader a better understanding of my review and comments.) Nursing home deliberately does not use seasoning, ESPECIALLY salt, simply because there are so many dietary restrictions for each resident. It's MUCH easier for a nursing home kitchen to provide food for a massive number of people whilst ensuring that the residents are adhering to dietary guidelines by not seasoning the food. Salt can always be added, but it can not be taken out. The food I received the other day reminded me of my tenure working in skilled nursing facilities. My friend had ordered pizza, and there was so much grease from the pepperoni. She had to use napkins to blot the grease off the top. The grease and fat had "pooled" on top of the pizza. It did NOT look appetizing....at ALL! The temperature of my food was all over the place. It was very cold in the center and extremely hot around the edges. Our server acted as if they wished they were at any other place besides the restaurant. This attitude spilled over into their work performance. Not once did our server provide us with everything that was asked of them. They ALWAYS forgot at least two items. My friend (who is also a nurse) and I are two of the most laid-back people on the planet. We figured our server might have just been having an off day. It became very apparent that this was not the case. For example, when we started to order our drinks, I asked, "How fresh is your coffee?" My server just looked at me without answering. So, I asked again. And again, they just looked at me. My girlfriend raised an eyebrow at me. We were both just stumped AND mystified! My girlfriend ordered a glass of water. Without any acknowledgment, our server turned and left our table. I wasn't afforded the chance to actually place an order for a drink! When they came back with my pal's water, she pointed out that her cup was dirty and requested a new cup with fresh water. It was so filthy (and also EXTREMELY OBVIOUS that it was FILTHY!) that the dried hunks of food that had stuck to inside of the cup, started to become dislodged and was then FLOATING in the water! The server, without saying a word, turned to walk away. My friend actually yelled out FOUR times, very loudly, "Excuse me!" to get their attention. (I need to point out that we were the ONLY TWO patrons in the Café at this time, and though there was background noise, it was actually more on the quiet side. By this time, we were done giving the server the benefit of the doubt, and we both felt not one iota of empathy or compassion towards our server. What we did feel was frustration & and anger! If we hadn't been starving, we would've gotten up & left. In hindsight, that's exactly what we should've done. And we still hadn't ordered our food! We debated on talking with the manager. However, the manager was unavailable. I do hope they read this! This will help them understand why even though their doors are not permanently shut, this will help explain why there's only on average one customer per HOUR! I will NOT give this Café a...
Read morePizza and salad were great. We arrived at 6:50pm on trivia nite. Our party had 17 adults 1 toddler. Seating was not available for our size party. The waitress, dressed in white flip flops, too short too tight shorts, belly hanging beneath too short tight knit top, blue dyed unkept hair also not clean and not customer friendly. They were very busy, doing alot of business but this waitress was the only one of the wait staff with this description. She offered the outdoor dining if we wanted to stay, never telling us it was the designated smoking area. We waited 20 minutes for service, tables were dirty but drinks were served quickly. After 3 asking 3 men who came out to smoke to move off away to smoke the female manager on duty arrived to say we couldn't ask smokers to move away. She pointed out that dining outside where there was a smoking sign 2" x 4" over in corner by trash can was company policy regardless that it had tables & chairs for dining. She said we had no reservations, could still eat outdoors but couldn't ask any smokers to move off to smoke. This 35 minutes into our arrival. I pointed out we were 17 paying food & drink dinners opposed to 3 smokers. It didn't make much of a business impression as she reiterated 3 more times company smoking policy. I asked for company name and contact information wanting confirmation dining & smoking in same location are indeed company policy. When 2 of the party (asthmatics) left a the drinks waitress returned to say tables would be made available indoors for us in about 5 minutes if we could wait. 1 hour and 40 minutes after arriving our meals were served. 9 days later still waiting for call back from...
Read moreThis is the first review for a restaurant I've ever written (I'm usually much too lazy to go out of my way and post my opinions about a place lol) but I really just have to say that Varsity in Bellevue has not only delicious pizza but their customer service is nothing short of amazing.
I've called in orders for delivery about 4 times in the last couple months and every single time the people who take my order are SO friendly and personable. Not only that, they're accommodating to my fairly OCD requests about half-and-half pizzas and are really informative when I've asked questions about different menu items.
Most places that do late-night food delivery act like they hate their jobs, but the workers at Varsity Sports Cafe & Roman Coin Pizza have never been anything but awesome.
Big shout out to the guys that work the late night weekend shifts -- that's usually when we order, and you all rock! From who takes the order, the food, and the delivery :)
Bellevue really lacks in delivery options, especially anything after 10pm, so thank you providing not only top-notch food when we need it but also being great at what you do. Just tonight I didn't specify if I wanted hot sauce on a pizza I was ordering and you called back to double-check rather than making an assumption... keep on being amazing!
We'll definitely be ordering a lot more...
