It saddens me to leave this review, I love our local community and supporting small businesses more than anything.
I have a service animal, and while I may not fit the expected appearance of someone who “needs” one, my dog is trained to perform specific acts for me as a disabled person, and we are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Today my husband and I were going to out for a date, excited to enjoy a local burger and a drink or two at Grand Avenue Ale House. We walked in, ready to show ID and order, and were told that they would not serve us because we had a dog. I promptly and concisely informed the staff that he is a service animal, protected by the ADA, and asked if they were refusing us service. I was told repeatedly “we don’t allow dogs” “we won’t serve you with a dog” etc.
I again calmly informed the staff that “my animal is trained to perform a specific task to assist me as a disabled person,” I was again refused service. I raised my voice so other patrons could hear and said “Just so I’m clear, you are refusing me service on the basis of my being accompanied by a service animal specifically trained to perform tasks for me as a disabled person, a violation of my rights as outlined in the ADA”
At which point another employee finally said something to the man speaking to, or more accurately ignoring, me and he turned around to let me know “my boss apparently just changed the rules.” We decided to spend our dollars elsewhere tonight where we would not be upset by ignorant, ill informed, cold staff and I might recommend you do the same.
We have reached out to the manager, as well as filed a complaint with the...
Read moreAbsolutely worst experience I’ve had at a bar. This was my third visit. When me and my fiancé stopped at the bar, we asked to try a sample of a beer we hadn’t had before and the bartender was incredibly rude to us about it. After we ordered a drink we waited 25 min outside the bathroom for it to open up, eventually I checked in at the bar to see if there was a key we needed and again the bartender was extremely disrespectful. I went to knock on the bathroom door and someone I’m assuming is a bus boy grabbed me by the shoulder aggressively and said “what do you think your doing” I explained how long we had been waiting and he apologized but excused himself saying “I gotta keep the peace here”. After we went back and found a table we seen this same employee get into 2 other confrontations with other customers... Never been to such a hostile staffed establishment, won’t...
Read morePretty good pool tables, not top notch. Great if you aren't trying to get serious. I only go there on sundays or mondays, but the bartender remembers friends and I and thats super nice. A bartender is like a doctor, being cool them them is always a benefit. It's almost homey feeling. Its probably one of the best places in town. Sunday-Wednesday is perfect because its low key. I prefer it over state and the beav, just because it's mad low key and the regulars all get along. I hate busy places so weekdays here is my golden ticket. Just tip these people well... remember if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to be...
