State Street Bar, what's their to say? It's an iconic Bellingham mainstay. Go to school in Bham? You ended up at State Street at some point. Drop out of school in Bham? You've gone to State Street. State is there even on the holidays you're probably supposed to be with your in-laws, but don't want to because Uncle Al is still touchy about that time you mentioned you accidentally held hands with a boy (wow that conversation should have died at Thanksgiving 2017 but here we are)
It's a very cozy bar with a classic aesthetic with a solid mix of college knuckleheads, wise old sailors and honestly three of the coolest bartenders in town. Lisa, Kamiah, and Emily hold it the EF down with the drinks and fried foods, and excellent conversation.

Read moreI walk inside. A tasteful fake plant, a vine of some kind, drapes itself along the divider on my left. A friendly gentleman sitting at a podium asks me for my identification card, and I oblige. He then places a stamp upon my wrist. I walk forwards to the bar. The award-winning Pabst brew is a mere seven dollars and fifty cents for an entire pitcher! Of course I order it. After a glass or two I engage in a fiercely competitive game of air hockey with my companion. I lose, yet my sense of good-fortune and enjoyment is not lost. I contemplate the prospect of challenging him to a game of billiards, of which there are two playing surfaces in the back room of this fine establishment, but I decide not to, fearing another defeat. We sit and drink our beer while eating some delicious, and complimentary, popcorn. I use the restroom to relieve myself and am surprised at the coziness inside it.
