I was at Coney Waffle in belmar NJ on Thursday, June 13th, me and my friend both got the crazy milk shakes, we spent $66 and change on the milkshakes, gave the woman $80 and told her to keep the change. I had a lovely experience, the shake was over the top and it was super fun.. however, within two hours I began having severe stomach pains, which ended up with me throwing up the entire night, and not so pretty out of the other end either. I am totally scarred and never want to eat ice cream again. I only ate the two waffles folded in half with ice cream; I brought home the whole shake, all the candy on top, and the ice cream cone as well, so I did not over eat. At first I literally thought my appendix was rupturing because the shooting pain was so severe. I was running a fever, and throwing up non stop. I was up all night getting sick, and slept all day long on Friday, the entire day. My whole body aches and my I still have pain in my abdomen, my digestive system is still not tolerating much at all. So, I called them this evening and was definitely not taken seriously, which very much so upset me. I was not asking for my money back I simply wanted the cookies and cream ice cream taken off the shelf so it would not happen to anyone else. I was maybe on the phone for a minute, and was told it would be looked into, because you can see listeriosis right?! That was sarcasm. I will be calling the Health department Monday to inform them of the after math of my experience. Neither me, nor my room mate that stayed up with me all night found this to be a joke. I considered the hospital, and looking back probably should have went. I just wish I was met with more care and concern while sharing I got food poisoning from their ice cream shop, while spending A LOT of money. It all began within two hours of leaving the ice cream polar, beginning with the severe, severe stomach pains, shortly after starting the nausea and vomiting which persisted all night. I only woke up to either vomit, or use the rest room, which was far from pretty, I was also extremely dehydrated. I literally slept until 9pm Friday evening and woke up feeling very tired and achy all over, still with the stomach pains. Other then instant packaged oatmeal I ate Thursday morning, the ice cream was all I ate. I will never go back (not sure I will ever eat ice cream again) and I will definitely do my best to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else!! I’m appalled at the response from coney waffle in belmar, they should be ashamed with their response, coming from someone who has been working in customer service for 8 years, 6 of which where spent directly in the food industry. I pray no one else endures the same...

I love their pick up option (Belmar 9th Ave) due to long lines during high volume times, but there’s no designated pick up region so you have to go out of your way to interrupt an already miserable team member that is purposely ignoring you — even when low volume. They need to retrain all members, including leadership, to at very minimum make eye contact with customers if they’re not going to greet anyone when they come into the building. You’d hope that this would already be a standard operating policy, but after many visits with the same behavior (most of it stemming from seemingly leadership members) — it’s evidently not. Another time prior to this, I had to interrupt unfortunately to ask where to pick up. The older woman responded like I just spit in her face, “uh, well do you even have a pick up?” Like… oh no, I’m just standing here asking dumb questions to waste my time?
They should also have someone going out at least 2x during their work day to clean up the sitting region. There’s trash literally everywhere, which is even more disturbing than normal for a beach...
Read moreOur first trip to Coney Waffle (Belmar) did not disappoint. Four out of our party of six got the waffle with ice cream (no one repeated a flavor choice & all were delicious). My daughter & I shared the Liberty - a bowl full of three flavors of ice cream (the chocolate peanut butter was superb & the rich & famous is definitely worth a try), topped with a sugar cone, a Chipwich, cotton candy, a ring pop & various types of gummi candies. We finished all the ice cream on our own, but shared the Chipwich and bagged the candy (they gave us multiple spoons, wet wipes & a bag for all that candy). We all agreed we'd make the trip for that again!
One note - one member of our party is lactose-free and Coney Waffle has a pretty good list of vegan choices (about eight flavors, I think). The girls behind the counter were great & let her try as many flavors as she wanted. After not really being sold on any of them (they were very tasty, but not as creamy as real ice cream), the girl helping us offered to make her a waffle & put any of the toppings on it without the ice cream. She said the waffle itself was delicious!
Finally, if you are making the trip know it's street parking & also CASH ONLY...
