We went here for pizza this last weekend, when we were visiting the area. We had pizza at one other place while we were there, and this blew that went out of the water. We have to eat gluten-free due to allergies. Most gluten-free crust served at restaurants is really crack or crust or, at best, flat bread. this was soft with a slight chew to it, as a good pizza crush should have. I would have liked some air bubbles, but that's something I've only found in one place in all the Pacific Northwest.
We sat outside, as we had our putz with us. As it was dark, it was a little chilly until they lit the fireplace. Even with the fireplace on, the patio is rather large, and I do think they need to add some more gas heaters on the outer edges. The fireplace really only keeps you warm if you're within 6 inches to ten inches. The server was attentive and friendly. We didn't wait long for our order once it was in. We shared a large house house salad. My husband, who hates vinegarats, actually liked the one that was on this salad. It was spring. Mix lettuce with current shreds and nothing more. I don't know if there's normally croutons on it, and they left them out because of the gluten allergy, but it was just lettuce and carrot shreds for us.
The parking lot is tiny, and only one direction. There is street parking. You may have to walk a couple of blocks. There are a lot of restaurants on the street, making it a popular destination. When we first arrived, we were told It would be a thirty minute wait. We decided to start walking down the street for a few minutes. They said they had a cancelation, so they told us we were able to be seated within 2 minutes. We know now to expect a thirty minute wait in the future.
We really enjoyed the food. I highly recommend the house made pork. The sweet heat was a perfect balance of spicy, pickled peppers and sweet, tender house mate pork.
I would highly recommend, if you were going to eat here in the evening...even during the warmer months, bring a blanket and a jacket. My only disappointment was that there was no cider available. It worked out because I had a very good Ginger campucha, served in the bottle, with a glass of ice. It is made by a company that gives part of their proceeds to help the less fortunate.
I definitely recommend eating here if you are gluten intolerant. I had no reaction, and I am rather sensitive to cross contamination. Repeat that it's cooked and served on a metal Pan. Which helps eliminate that. Even if you don't have food allergies, the place is very popular, which tells you a lot. If you don't want pizza, they also have...
Read moreToday was my 4th time visiting 10 Barrel over a 10 yr span. Have always enjoyed the food and drink here in the past which makes me want to come back when I visit Bend but what happened today changes all of that. Walked in to the outdoor area around the bar during the early afternoon as a party of 5 and was warmly greeted by the bartender. I said hello and politely asked if 1 of the TVs could have the channel changed to the Mariners game. The bartender said, "Oh, that game is practically over" (it was tied in extra innings), but he got the remote & put the game on anyway. Not sure if he was trying to be rude or funny, but whatever. A patron at the bar then exclaimed "I hate Mariners fans! Why are there so many of them here?". No one in my party responded to that comment immediately but my buddy the Mariners fan was put off, and my other friend's wife was stunned and felt uncomfortable. Whatever, everyone has an (unsolicited) opinion, let's move on. Again, none of my party had said anything besides asking for the game to be put on. Then the bartender says "The only thing worse than Mariners fans are Yankees fans". At that point, as an actual New Yorker, unbeknownst to him, I spoke up and engaged in some somewhat friendly(?) backtalk. Nothing threatening, but a bit of an edge from both of us. Nothing worthy of throwing hands over. My other friend said, to end all of the nonsense, "Let me buy the guy at the bar a glass a water!" The response was "I drink here for free, so I'm good". Hmm. Interesting. Here's my point- this was the early afternoon in the middle of the week. I'm certain that the loudmouth at the bar was a 10 Barrel employee off shift or a good friend of the bartender. The bartender was very friendly to everyone before and after my party sat down but he was borderline rude to us, maybe out of some obligation to defend his friend at the bar. But my actual beef is with the guy at the bar. He was the instigator to all of this unnecessary nonsense, and I'm sure the day manager (8/23/23) and owner(s) of 10 Barrel would not be pleased to hear he created an unpleasant atmosphere for customers for absolutely no reason. Even if you do own the place, do you really want to create an unpleasant atmosphere for potential customers who simply ask for a ball game to be put on the TV? There are PLENTY of breweries in Bend. No biggie for me to never patronize 10 Barrel again. Customer service matters, people. I'm not a VIP, nor do I expect special treatment, but how about congeniality and politeness, from 1 random person to...
Read moreWe usually love coming to 10 Barrel, but our experience last night/today has been really frustrating.
We spent the 4th of July here and we had a great time. As we drove home, I realized that I left my sunglasses there. They are prescription, so they are expensive and I was hoping they were still on the table. I called this morning to ask if they’d seen them and she said they hadn’t. I was very nice and asked her if she wouldn’t mind just going over to the bar and asking them if they’d seen them. She did not want to help me or look, and was very bratty about it.
She proceeded to talk about me with her co-workers for about 30 seconds. “This lady left her prescription sunglasses here and wants me to check the bar, but if they are so expensive, why would she leave them here? Does she want us to buy her new sunglasses? I told her I already asked and they aren’t here, so maybe she shouldn’t have bought such expensive sunglasses and I’m not going to spend my time looking for them since she left them here”. She gets back on the phone and I’m in shock listening to this conversation, I told her I fully heard her conversation she just had about me. I don’t know how someone like this could be a hostess at a restaurant. I was very nice and just asked if she would check the bar and she did not want to do so.
I called back and asked for a manager and she was immediately rude to me and I realized that she was probably one of the people that the hostess was having this conversation with.
I am from bend, I grew up here and we have a business in town. If our employees spoke to a customer like this, they would no longer be employed. It was that bad. The way she talked to me and the way the manager handled this was really disappointing. Before I wrote this review, I tried to just have a conversation with the manager which just ended up making me more upset.
I don’t typically write bad reviews, but this...
