EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNERS REPLY: Laurie (I assume the owner) was our server on the first day & you/she had her mask on - over her/your mouth only- just as I stated in my review. While Laurie did not serve us the second day- Laurie was there and wore her mask the same way. I considered taking photos of all the kitchen staff not wearing masks and the servers wearing them over their mouth or just over their chins (why even bother at that point?) and posting those along with my review- but I decided not to. I know exactly what I saw and exactly where I was. If you want to deny it and lie- that is 100% on you. Your snarky comment that you all wear masks so maybe I don’t know where I was … is just that … snarky and rude and totally unprofessional. Additionally- Every review on this google listing that is in any way critical of your establishment is met with the same snarky tone. You might consider taking these comments as constructive criticism and handling yourself in a more professional manner. Good luck with your new business.
We went here twice over the weekend. Heard such great things about this place and wanted to give it a try. I will say up front- this google listing for the restaurant says that masks are required and that the staff wears masks. This is a complete joke. The waitresses in the main dining room had their masks either around their chin or only over their mouth- not over their nose at all. Not a single person in the kitchen had a mask or face shield or anything covering their face. Not one. If this doesn’t matter to you, great. But if you think that you can go out to breakfast, attempt to support a local restaurant and try to do everything you can to avoid getting Covid- Laurie’s Grill is not for you. I HOPED that on our first trip the lack of masks was a fluke … nope. Apparently that is just how they roll, regardless of what the rules are.
First meal was Sunday, 9/5 with my husband & kids. Had previously eaten in the same place when it was Kayo’s. Restaurant is very dated, no updates done between Kayo’s and Laurie’s. My husband had eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it. I ordered an omelet and it was bland. I rarely add salt/pepper to my food and this omelet needed both. The peppers & onion were barley cooked and lacked flavor. They were obviously tossed right in, uncooked and were steamed just enough inside the omelet to not be totally raw. I opted for the home style potatoes and those too were very undercooked. The potatoes were more boiled than grilled, and again, the peppers and onion were barley cooked. It all lacked flavor. My older son also got an omelet and he didn’t like it- “no flavor” and he didn’t even like the pancakes- said they weren’t soft. I had a bite; he wasn’t wrong- very tough outside.
The next day we went back was today, 9/6. This time just myself and my husband. Our meal was biscuits & gravy with one egg each, corned beef hash and sausage. The food was just adequate. Nothing exciting, nothing great, nothing worth going back for. I ordered my egg scrambled and that was a joke- see photo. Scrambled Eggs are supposed to be soft and fluffy.
The food quality could be overlooked… but the underwhelming service (and I’m not referring to being ignored- I get that folks are busy), the flies we continually swatted away during our meal & the lack of respect for others by flat out not wearing a simple mask …...
Read moreAs a first time customer all i can say is, to me it was not worth spending 19.50 for a veggie omelet, country potatoes, toast and Tea. Food was tasteless , and the veggies weren’t even scrambled in too the omelet like other dinners do, they just sat inside the folded omelet. which still gave it no flavor. the portions where small for the amount you pay. I also got the country potatoes on the side which was also flavorless, and instead of all the food being in one dish together, they were placed on separate dishes, which made no sense, instead they used 3 plates that barely fit in the Table, since my friend and I had to sit in the center table as your walking in because the both on the right hand side by the door is a high table both with very low benches and the seats are old and they sink, so they sat us in the center table in the entrence. The seating table was a normal square table, but not good if your going to bring 6 dishes for two plus 2 cups of tea and 2 cups of water, and all the condiments, it was so crowded, so let me go back to the serving plate for the omelet. This serving plate was not appealing at all, actually made the omelet more unappetizing.,This dish look like it had belong to a horror movie, a movie of a nightmare of a run down senior living center, this is where you would see this type of serving plate. it was just ugly squarish plate that served no purpose and had weight to it too,, it had some sort of metal to keep the omelet “warm”, but it didn’t even keep it warm it was unless and Just pointless, top it off I was half ways done with my meal, when my friend was trying to flag the waitress to kind of acknowledge us, but in her defense she had half the dinner to serve, so nothing against her, she was very nice. My friend then asked for the missing toast that came with the meal, she said we didn’t ask for it so she assumed we didn’t want it. She said she’s accustomed to customers always just saying white, or dark. I told her well you never asked me, I actually just thought it didn’t come with our meal even though it said in the menu, since she didn’t offer to ask, even those the menu said it did, I had never ate there before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect and it if the menu was updated as some after Covid have not. So here comes another plate to add to the table so we had less room for all our dishes and cups of water and tea. I did see another family in front of me who ordered onion rings and they look real good, so who knows I might go back to check out there other food but definitely not the breakfast menu, I mean for that price I should have gone to Jake’s or Palmers which there food is amazing! Oh yeah and and by the way, if you’re ordering gluten free items, prepare to pay 3.00 On top of that bill per item, per the menu. I did not ordered any. Hope this...
Read moreI came in to order a breakfast burrito and some potatoes to-go. It was a really simple order--no special customizations or requests, just a straight-up breakfast burrito as it comes on the menu.
The first burrito I got was just a bunch of sour cream, lettuce, and beans. No egg, no grilled veggies, or any of the other things that would tell you it's a breakfast burrito.
Luckily, I was staying at the hotel across the street and could just walk over and get it replaced. The staff was extremely polite and apologetic about the issue and explained that the lunch menu burrito had been rung up instead of the breakfast menu burrito (though, as a former line cook myself, I would've questioned the validity of a lunch menu item being ordered at 9am, but I digress).
The second burrito was actually a breakfast burrito, but it was a soggy mess. The veggies hadn't been pressed or cooked enough and all the moisture from them had pooled at the bottom of the container, and the tortilla they used was soft-taco sized, so it didn't even come close to wrapping around the contents of the burrito--it was completely open-faced.
So, after two attempts, I basically came away with an extremely wet breakfast scramble on top of a soggy tortilla.
Again, I want to commend the host staff for being polite, but the kitchen staff just seems like they either don't know what they're doing or...
