Canteen at Campfire Hotel — Restaurant in Bend

Rewriting my previous review here but bumping it up a star thanks to the call with Daniel at the Campfire hotel (realizing I needed to review the actual bar/restaurant and not the hotel).

Gf and I had a date night (not a hotel stay) at the Canteen bar. We ordered two drinks and wanted food. We were told the menu was no longer, and that it was "taco night" with a food truck available. We ordered a quesadilla and were presented with a styrofoam box. Inside was a flour tortilla, dry meat, and some cheese that looked microwaved. No salsa, no pico, no sour cream, no nada. I went inside asking for something, anything to help this sad meal. I was given a couple little salsa cups that were a very weak solution.

Long story short, great drinks, great ambiance and poolside people watching but the food and presentation was poopoo platter. I understand the short staffage and a chef/cook retiring, so I give them a bit of a pass. But a $35+ dollar bill for two drinks and some super weak food was disappointing. I’d love to give this chill/cute spot a 5 star however I’d also love to give it a 1 star. The food was amazing, the drinks were strong, beautifully crafted and absolutely delicious & I’d highly recommend the pickled veggies to share as a starter! Here’s where the 1 star comes in.. The service was absolute garbage, quite possibly the worst I’ve ever experienced in life! The server/bartender would rather be sitting on his phone never looking up aside from flirting with a cute girl. He also blew his nose several times without washing his hands before handling food & drinks which is not a thing to do in 2022. The icing on the cake Is my girlfriend had passed out & had her foot stuck in a bar stool and instead of offering help he stood and stared never once offering assistance thank goodness for a doctor also being attentive to her surroundings because the one left in charge of the cute place made the overall experience not the greatest. Awesome new bar, great for a post-adventure happy hour, fun first-or-fiftieth date spot, or killer place to grub! Did I mention the pool, hottub and year round bonfire you can chill around?? Manager Bootsie, bartender Dalton, totally awesome. Signature drinks delish, great set of micros, but even more impressive—the food! The paninis are off the charts plus a grip of apps. No greasy pubgrub here, they have a real chef! And Chef David is an artist! We even got to meet the owners, Doug and Phoebe, who also own the Dogwood downtown by Drake park.
