I really enjoyed my visit to El Primo. At first, I was intrigued—walking past outdoor vendors and through a convenience/grocery store just to reach the restaurant tucked in the back. The place was packed, the music was loud, and the smell from the kitchen had my mouth watering before we even sat down.
We were seated and given tortilla chips topped with a black bean gravy and a dusting of white queso. The waiter let us know there was a toppings bar, free to use as much as we liked. It featured fresh tomato salsa, salsa verde, a spicy sauce, and a guacamole salsa. It also had fresh diced onions, chopped cilantro, lime, and slices of guacamole.
The combo of those sauces with the chips and bean gravy was incredible. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of just that.
Eventually, we ordered. Since the place was so busy, it took a little while to get our food, but the wait was worth it. My wife ordered a chimichanga, and I got three tacos—two beef and one al pastor. The tacos came simply with meat and tortilla, and you add your own toppings from the bar. I was slightly disappointed they didn’t come with rice or refried beans, but after biting into the al pastor taco, the toppings bar more than made up for it. The pork was incredibly tender and flavorful. It was so filling, I couldn’t even start on the beef tacos—though I did sneak a bite, and wow, they were delicious too. I can’t wait to eat them as leftovers.
My wife’s chimichanga was excellent as well. Her plate came with salad, beans, and rice. She gave me a bite, and it was delicious. The marinated chicken inside was full of flavor, and I loved the crispy fried tortilla shell.
The atmosphere had music blasting, but we didn’t mind it much. There were a couple of TVs showing different things. The one near us was playing ION, which felt a little random, while the other had a Spanish-language channel on.
After dinner, we paid and walked back through the store area of the building. There was a bakery-style section where you pick your pastries and bring them to the cashier at the front. You're supposed to use clean tongs and place your selections on a silver tray.
The prices were pretty reasonable—about what you’d expect at other Mexican restaurants.
Overall, the experience was great—better...
Read moreMy review is bad off customer service solely who ever Hector is to this restaurant should really honestly not be working here .. My mother and I came here to celebrate my mother’s birthday as she was excited to come here .. Hectors customer service was horrible he had us wait while as I thought he counted the till to which came out just to be the tip jar, asks us what we would like to order to only mid way walk away from my mother as she was ordering to speak to someone else. That’s not the worst part .. after we order we are told our food will be ready in 15 minutes, we waited 30 minutes as Hector just stood around and spoke in a group to which he was just standing next to our order and let it sit out.. Eventually when everyone stopped talking we were asked if we ordered yet just to find that our food had been sitting there for over 15 minutes.!!! Our food was cold and presentation wise the food looked off.. Sorry to say just based off Hectors customer service we will not be back !! You don’t no ignore new customers u treat them right so they would want to come back ! I spent almost 70 dollars there yesterday and honestly I won’t be back .. NOT sure if Red collard shirts mean managers but I’ll say this ! Someone who has worked in a restaurant as a General manager knows no manger nor employee should be working or taking orders to people they might not wanna give time to .. ME AND MY FAMILY WILL NOT BE BACK!! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER .. I WILL SAY DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU ORDER OVER THE PHONE OR HECTOR JUST ISNT TAKING ORDERS .. But really who knows when that will be so I just wouldn’t come here if your looking for a great customer service experience!!! Yes I commented on both your Facebook page and google account that’s how bad the service was that I came to two different sites to...
Read moreThis place is a little confusing if it’s your first time. It’s a restaurant, grocery store and bakery all in one. Some of the bakery items aren’t wrapped up and are in the open. If you want any items then you take a sliver platter, which doesn’t have any parchment paper on it and a pair or tongs. Then you pick any bakery items you want, put them on the tray and then go to the counter to pay. None of the bakery items are labeled so if you don’t know what the items are, you have to ask a staff member. I bought a couple of things and was disappointed. The corn bread is dry and the frosting came right off of the doughnut which was dry as well. However, they have fresh bread which is delicious. The churros would also be delicious if they came out fresh.
The restaurant itself is very unique. Since it was my first time, I asked a staff member where to go to get a table. They instructed me to wait in line, but then I saw other people walking past me and sitting right away. When I asked someone else; they said you can sit down anywhere and the waiter would right over. Initially, they give you chips which had beans and cheese. The chips were good and crispy. The food is authentic Mexican food. The tacos came with just meat, however, they have a toppings bar that has salsa, onions and cilantro. There is no sour cream or cheese included and you have to ask for it separately. The topping bar is not covid friendly and everyone is touching the spoons without them being properly wiped down. Overall, the prices are really cheap but the food is...
