Chepe's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Benton

We were seated quickly as usual. We had already eaten the first basket of chips before our waitress ever showed up to take drink and food order. She was not educated on the menu and had to ask questions twice from another employee before confirming our order. The food is always good. We asked for a to go box for what was left of the kids food and she never brought it. My wife ordered a taco salad and the waitress put in a fajita salad instead. We dealt with what came out because it took an unreasonably long time to get our food. I only asked they make sure we were charged for the correct item. She ended up brining out someone else to discuss the incorrect order who told us it was our fault because when asked if we wanted shredded or grilled chicken we ordered grilled. Apparently that made the order fajita salad instead of taco salad. We would have known that if the waitress was qualified to do her job before being turned loose to work alone. We spent well over an our a half here on this trip. Most of it waiting on the restaurant. Previously our experiences have been positive but after this trip I don't think we will be back. We had other plans for the afternoon that we cancelled due to the restaurant being so slow. The table behind us also had their order messed up. Sad to see what has always been a good restaurant...

What do you think of when you think of a Mexican Grill? You think of well seasoned, mouth watering steak, chicken, shrimp, etc that is grilled to absolute perfection and covered in savory onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers....

Well, they got that last part right at least, but their food is disappointingly under-seasoned and just plain bland in taste. I don't know, maybe I just don't know what to order, but I was very unsatisfied with the quality of food here and I ordered steak for crying out loud. How in the world do you mess up steak?

Now that we have the negative out of the way, the place isn't all bad. The restaurant is very nice and clean on the inside and the waitress was exceptional and did try to make things right as best she could, which I did very much appreciate; but the problem here is the food, definitely not the service. Also, the outdoor seating here is very nice on days that it's sunny with a cool breeze, and the smell of food definitely makes your mouth water... unfortunately the taste does not.

I also want to say that this place is somehow a very popular place to eat and was pretty busy for the food to be that bad. But for me, I'll look elsewhere for my next meal. Thanks...

I debated writing this review because I love the food and never got experience like today but some of it didn't sit right with me. We sat at our table for around 30 minutes and instead of getting our drinks or any appetizer for a family of 4 the waiters and waitresses just walked by and looked at us like a museum exhibit without informing anyone. On top of that we were sat in the section where the ac didn't seem to work so it was getting hot and we didn't have any water. I admit it was a busy day but we watched the restaurant almost clear out and still no one came. It seemed like another table in our section was also getting the same treatment but they at least had water and eventually food came. The final thing is that two separate parties with white customers were attended right away and got drinks and appetizers in just minutes. I won't say it was racism, but as someone who doesn't notice things like that, it was very noticeable today. The only reason I'm fully going down to 1 star is because a waitress (Abigail) stepped up and attended us and I'm certain we were not even close to her section. Also the food was still good and came out fast thanks to Abigail....
