I've seen a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant and a few recommendations from personal colleagues. That's why i decided to go. The service is acceptable, however the price and the quality of the food is complete and utter trash. Please excuse my language, but for the prices they charge, the quality of sushi should be a lot better. I ordered the love boat for two and ikura sushi. The ikura sushi was extremely salty. This indicates low quality as they need to add more salt to preserve the egg. The fish was not fresh at all. It exhibited the dull look of old fish meat. This can be attested to the smell. I could readily detect the odor of rotting fish; again indicating old fish. The taste was "funky" for a lack of a better word; off putting. The horse raddish was not fresh either. I honestly felt disgusted with my self for eating it, but i was hungry and i just shelled out 50 dollars for it! I honestly wanted to vomit. I went home and ate something immediately to get the rotting fish taste out of my mouth. The sushi is extremely over priced for the quality. 7 pieces of sushi for 21 dollars! Do yourself a favor avoid this place like the plague and go to East Japanese in Teaneck right off Teaneck road. You'll thank me for it! And if you read the review below, keep in mind he failed to post his name. I am putting my name on this review thats how mad I am about this "hidden gem" as the previous reviewer puts it. I also can't believe he would belittle East Japanese as a "filler up sushi joint." This guy is obviously getting a pay check...
Read moreI must continue to sing the priases of Nihon Kai, that little Japanese Restaurant across from Tommy Fox's on Washington in Bergenfield. We have been ordering sushi delivery from them for years, and they just seem to get better and better.
We order Speciality Rolls from an extensive, imaginative selection of creations, we order Temaki (Hand Rolls) and Classic Maki all for one order, usually.
And they never, ever disappoint.
Your order is arranged artfully with fresh flowers, delivered by the sweetest drivers (DON'T go thru those delivery apps -- they suck restaurants dry with their commissions -- order directly from the nicest lady who picks up the phone!!)
The orders arrive on time, with chopsticks, soy and the best wasabi. Their fish is screamingly fresh, and their rolls don't fall apart, and are NOT constructed of mostly rice.
And are you kidding me with the artistry.
Order delivery, or stop by. I heard their Hibachi is wonderful.
And don't forget to tip...
Read moreI discovered this place a few years ago and it's been one of my favorite restaurants ever since. It may be easy to miss from the outside, but the food is incredible. The restaurant has a few sit down tables and booths that are cozy and comfortable, the staff are hard working and very kind, and it's just a great place to go to. It seems to be family owned and run, and everyone I've interacted with there was very, very sweet. The prices (for the entrees, at least--ive never tried the sushi since I don't like fish) are extremely low too, which is a nice surprise these days! Highly, highly recommend checking it out. The noodles are delicious, as is the fried green ice cream. It's by far the best I've ever had. Thanks for running such a great...
