Delicious but somewhat expensive burgers in the Gourmet Ghetto that is in North Berkeley. Barneys is a small chain of hamburger restaurants that are primarily in the Oakland Berkeley area. We didn't know, but now we do.
For perspective, a Barneys burger costs $17.50, but it's a really good burger. Burgers are cooked to order with very good quality beef. Fries, onion rings, and other sides are ordered separately. Whereas the burgers were excellent, the onion rings and fried vegetables (their version of tempura) were on the oily side. Keep this in mind.
Their menu is expansive, and they offer salads and other items. We stuck to the burgers.
Service is friendly and efficient. Parking can be challenging, but there are metered spaces about a block away near Safeway.
The restaurant is clean and well maintained. The shiny sign out front gives a slight indication of the pride they take in the establishment... or maybe we're just being too generous.
In any case, on a nice day, try to snag a table on the patio and bite into a juicy, well crafted burger..all while soaking in the liberal elite vibe of North Berkeley It's a...
Read moreWe got to the restaurant and it's pretty amazing! There is a great patio area and in the restaurant is cozy with wood furniture and a fireplace. There isn't a lot of street parking in this area but there is a Safeway right across the street.
The servers were really attentive to our needs and were really quick at taking our order. Food came out super quick. We ordered curly fries, the Big Barney, and the Voodoo Burger. The fries were on our table in less than 10 minutes and the our burgers were there in another 10 minutes. The fries were super fresh and hot. The ranch they have for it seems homemade and pairs well with the fries. Our burgers were hot and juicy. I would have liked my bun to be toasted and the pattie to be more heavily seasoned but it was still an excellent burger and nothing a salt shaker and pepper grinder could not fix (they were already there on the table along with ketchup, mustard, Dijon, and Tabasco).
Overall we had an excellent experience and I'm sure we'll...
Read moreThe staff and manager were really attentive. The manager offered me a cup of tea while I wait which was so wonderful on a cold winter night.
I was looking for an alternative to beef to eat less red meat. I was happily surprised that they have a salmon burger. I ordered Chipotle style because I love sautéed mushrooms on my burger. Chipotle came with the right amount of spice and kick.
Burgers are a little more expensive than what was previously posted. Chipotle burger was $17.75.
I also order a side of curly fries for $4.75 that was such a big order that filled up my large take out container. The fries were perfectly seasoned that were so good that I forgot to take a pic before gobbling them up. They were a little bit greasy. So good!
I topped it off with a perfect lemonade $3.95 that was balanced with the right amount of sweet and tart.
I really enjoyed this meal! Thank you...
